What happens when the worlds of the Mafia and psychiatry collide? Deniro in a rare and classic comedic performance!
As a huge fan of mob movies, in particular those that star Deniro, it was fun to see a faithful send-up of the genre with a genuinely good premise and great acting. Deniro has done some real doozies in the past decade or so, but he always shines in anything mob-like. His last quasi-comedic performance was in "Jackie Brown" but he basically mumbled through the entire event. That leaves one of his best, memorable comedic performance as "The King of Comedy", circa 1980 until "Analyze This", a close second. The supporting cast his hilarious too, Crystal, Palmentieri (also always great in Mob roles ) and the guy who plays "Jelly" - all spot on. In addition, all of the cameos (many who are familiar faces in dramatic mob movies) appear to revel in their roles. A comedy classic!!!
DVD has surface wear but plays just fine in my player. A real bargain at less than $2.50! Glad to supplement my Blu-ray of this title with the DVD as the Blu-ray I have doesn't have any of the special features (i.e. 2 commentary tracks, gag reel, and other extras).

This is an old fashioned, funny movie with real comedy, not just today's brand of adolescent slap-stick. Ben Sobol (Billy Crystal) is a New York psychiatrist who is engaged to be married to Lisa Kudrow. All of a sudden, his life is invaded by Head Mafia Don Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro). He is having a lot of problems with the FBI and other families, and is suffering from severe anxiety attacks. Crystal isn't asked for help, but is summoned to come . . .an offer he couldn't refuse. . . This is just the beginning of their relationship and things only get nuttier from there! Crystal is like this socialite type of doctor to the rich and famous, and this is his life. Now he must deal with Vitti and his hench men, all a bunch of well-meaning, but bad-ass thugs. The clashes are totally hilarious, ... This is an old fashioned, funny movie with real comedy, not just today's brand of adolescent slap-stick. Analyze This--a hilarious comedy
I thoroughly enjoyed this film! Directed by the talented Harold Ramis (remember him from Second City TV?), the film stars Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro. Crystal plays psychiatrist Dr.Ben Sobel, and De Niro plays gangster Paul Vitti who demands Sobel's help to prevent panic attacks. Another reviewer mentioned the frequent use of profanity, which I personally did not find offensive, but because of the language this is definitely not a family film. The outtakes are very funny and makes you wonder how this crew was able to complete filming! I tend to watch my favorite films over and over again, and I've seen this one five times.I thoroughly enjoyed this film! Finally own it!
A friend of mine, Vinny Vella Jr, plays De Niro's son in this movie. I've wanted to own it for years, and am very happy to have had a great quality movie shipped so fast. Thank you, and God bless!
