Faithful to the conventions of the World War II genre, Mostow's (BREAKDOWN) submarine thriller pays earnest homage to the pluck and determination of ordinary people forced to overcome extraordinary odds. The mostly young and inexperienced crew of the S-33 is deployed on a top secret, high-priority mission to intercept a disabled German u-boat (the titular U-571) and capture the ship's encryption system--the Enigma--in order to crack the Nazi's communication codes and hasten an allied victory in the North Atlantic. Racing against a German rescue effort, the S-33 stages a daring raid on the U-571. But after capturing the U-571, the Americans find themselves its prisoner as they must pilot the leaky, disabled vessel through hostile enemy waters. McConaughey (EDTV, DAZED AND CONFUSED) leads a strong cast (Keitel - HOLY SMOKE, Paxton - A SIMPLE PLAN) in this fast-paced, tense, submarine adventure.

Like the cover says "A Fantastic Movie"
If you loved Crimson Tide with Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington or The Hunt for Red October with Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin you are going to love this movie. U-571 is a older movie based on a true story, with a very young looking Jon Bon Jovi, Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton and the legendary Harvey Keitel. I have been asking DVD stores to get this DVD for me for years. I first saw the video years ago and loved it, and now with the DVD's I love and collect I wanted a copy of this movie in the collection. DVD retailers would say "No sorry mate, they are not in production with that movie right now" I just thought I would check eBay and there it was... ready for me to buy. When I got the DVD home in the mail the DVD didnt dissapoint. Watching some years later I beleive I have picked ... The extra footage of the behind the scenes is a "must watch" as well. It explains the story of the Enigma machine they are looking to capture on the German Submarine, and actually interviews the men in which the story is based on. It's a great keep sake DVD, made in a time when special effects were not used as much, so you know this was being done authentically. Like the cover says "A Fantastic Movie"

Why i buy this dvd because i use to have it on video and i love the film soo much i want to get on dvd.
