Reviews
"Mike Johnson and Simon Harley have produced a book that provides an overview of orogenic research and an introduction to the physico-chemical properties of mountain belts. Both are leading authorities in their fields and their excellent understanding of the issues involved comes though in the clearly-structured text. ... this book deserves to be widely read." - Chris Hawkesworth, Geoscientist August 2012, 'Mike Johnson and Simon Harley have produced a book that provides an overview of orogenic research and an introduction to the physico-chemical properties of mountain belts. Both are leading authorities in their fields and their excellent understanding of the issues involved comes through in the clearly-structured text … this book deserves to be widely read.' Geoscientist, "is an excellent in-depth, up-to-date, well-written overview of the various proposed processes and mechanisms involved in mountain building..Summing Up: Essential" - M.E. McCallum, CHOICE, December 2012, "...Logical arrangement, attractive narrative style, that leads a reader through complex topic of the formation of mountains without weariness, legible and very well prepared illustrations, makes this volume an important position for geologists, geophysicists, petrologists and geochemists." - Marek Lewandowski, Polish Academy of Sciences, Pure and Applied Geophysics, 'Logical arrangement, [an] attractive narrative style that leads [the] reader through [the] complex topic of the formation of mountains without weariness, legible and very well prepared illustrations [make] this volume … important … for geologists, geophysicists, petrologists and geochemists.' Marek Lewandowski, Pure and Applied Geophysics, '… this book offers plenty of food for thought … would be a useful addition to the library of a geologist desiring an overview of the diverse array of topics associated with modern approaches to mountain building and orogenic tectonics.' Rebecca A. Jamieson, Elements, "Overall, this book offers plenty of food for thought...would be a useful addition to the library of a geologist desiring an overview of the diverse array of topics associated with modern approaches to mountain building and orogenic tectonics." - Rebecca A. Synopsis
Orogenesis, the process of mountain building, occurs when two tectonic plates collide - either forcing material upwards to form mountain belts such as the Alps or Himalayas or causing one plate to be subducted below the other, resulting in volcanic mountain chains such as the Andes. Integrating the approaches of structural geology and metamorphism, this book provides an up-to-date overview of orogenic research and an introduction to the physico-chemical properties of mountain belts. Global examples are explored, the interactioning roles of temperature and deformation in the orogenic process are reviewed, and important new concepts such as channel flow are explained. This book provides a valuable introduction to this fast-moving field for advanced undergraduate and graduate students of structural geology, plate tectonics and geodynamics, and will also provide a vital overview of research for academics and researchers working in related fields including petrology geochemistry and sedimentology., Providing a valuable introduction to the processes that form mountain belts, this book summarises research in this fast-moving field for advanced undergraduate and graduate students of structural geology, plate tectonics and geodynamics, and academics and researchers working in related fields including petrology geochemistry and sedimentology.

- i***y (712)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Six derniers moisAchat vérifié2 volumes of Pogo comic strips, new and in perfect condition. Price was good, but shipping cost ($30 for two books) seems like a lot for how long it took to get delivered (23 days from Illinois to Spain). Also, seller communication was not great. First two times I wrote, their response did not address question. Third response explained at length about the private courier service they use and how it should take 1-10 business days to deliver. Maybe they should consider a different courier service.
- o***l (313)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Dernière annéeAchat vérifiéThe item was described to a Tee. Very good communication. Shipping was just a little slow. The box the set of books comes in was damaged (bent corners) due to packaging. Not a deal breaker because the grand kids will not store in that box; might be if it were to be given as a present. The three books in the box arrived in prefect shape. I WOULD purchase from greatbookprices1 again in the future. ThanksConstruction Site Board Books Set, Hardcover by Rinker, Sherri Duskey; Lichte... - r***_ (108)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Dernier moisAchat vérifié*Same as the other review* Purchased two box sets from this seller with one being advertised as "like new" but was delivered as if it was actually new. Shipping time was a little slow, takes about 10 days to ship out and it takes a while to get through the system. But the packing was great and I'm still overall happy with my purchase.
