Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front is the second such licensed title to appear on the PS2, yet, it differs significantly from the action-oriented Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo. The gameplay places a heavy emphasis on squad-based tactical assaults that force you to give careful consideration to the battle's parameters before embarking on a given mission. Set in the year 0079, players take control of Zeonic forces as they launch an assault upon the Earth Federation. Prior to the commencement of any mission, players are presented with an overhead map detailing key objectives and vital information pertinent to the impending assault. You're also given the opportunity to select the pilots, mobile suits, and equipment that will make up the three squads under your command. The player has the ability to control a unit of his choosing during the 3D real-time engagements, but proper use of waypoints and timely issuing of commands is necessary to ensure the desired result is achieved during battle. Radar, Sonar, and Thermal surveillance allow you to keep track of enemy units, though each has inherent strengths and weaknesses. Sonar for example has the greatest range of the three, but is only able to detect moving units. Each of the four units available -- the Zaku, Zaku II, Gouf, and Dom -- has a number of weapons available in addition to any equipment that you may have bestowed upon it prior to the launch of the mission. Shoulder-mounted bazookas and machine guns are the weapons of choice for distant combat, while axes and energy swords are used at close range. Support equipment includes gadgets such as cloaking devices, air support, grenades, decoys, and sensor boosters. Cameo appearances from many of the series' most beloved units abound, including Amuro Ray and the Guncannon, to name but two. A host of unlockable secrets, ranging from hidden missions to new options can be unearthed after multiple play-throughs.

Old School, Nostalgia, and Tactical/ Real Time Gameplay
I miss this game from my childhood. I played it for hours and found it to be ahead of its time in many ways. I have yet to witness another gundam game or mech game like this one to date. I herald it much like Final Fantasy Tactics but not in a turn based setting. I hope you consider a play through.

If you're a Gundam fan, or just plain fan of Mecha games, this is the game for you. Strap yourself into one of over 30 available mobile suits and take on over 40 missions. But this time, you're not fighting on the side of the Federation, this time you're a Zeek! You command the unit, Midnight Fenrir, in a campaign against the Earth Federation. As you go along, you can unlock more mobile suits, weapons, and extras to customize, like night vision scopes, extra ammo, radar cloaks, and smoke grenades. Set your own mission way-points and guide your team through intense combat, once through against tanks, the second time against mobile suits. Use a variety of weapons, ranging from the 90 mm Machine Gun, to the long-range 90 mm AR Rifle, to the powerful Beam Rifle. GRAPHICS AND SOUND: leave you ... One shot in the back will kill you, and about 2 or three direct shots in the front will do the same, once your shield (if equiped) runs out. Some trees and buildings look flat, to preserve on the PlayStation's RAM. But each mobile suit is detailed right down to intricate insignias. And if you look closely enough, there are even bullet marks. GAMEPLAY: You'll have fun solving puzzles on the battlefield, using different mobile suits for different terrain and missions, each with different equipment. You need to plan to win, you can't just throw three Zakus in with machine guns and blow everything up. REPLAYABILITY: With over 40 missions and tons of extras to unlock, even after beating the game, you'll have fun unlocking all the extra mobile suits, weapons, and add-ons. (HINT HINT: You can unlock a Gundam :D ). CONTROLS: There are plenty of controls, beyond those of the basic gamer. Controls for stopping team movements, setting their movement speed, WHO moves, who attacks and who doesn't. You can even control the formations of individual teams, for attack, defense, retreat, and advance. Controlling the MS can be confusing at first, but all controls on the pad are customizable in their function, and axis are reversible. OVERALL: There probably is no better Gundam fighting game on the market (Except for MSG: Crossfire for the PS3). If you own the PS2, and are in need of a game that is sure to tantalize your Mecha/Gundam craving, this is the game for you! The game is fully customizable, so the entire game truly becomes your own. This game is similar to the new Crossfire game, but played only on the side of Zeon (usuakky bad guys). It uses a unique squad system and before each mission you assign them waypoints and battle codes. You can also take control of the teams directly and fight as them. The game also has a stealth system to add a challenge. The game is very difficult in that your mobile suits die relatively easy, and if hit from behind, you go down very quickly. Zeonic Front
The game is just as good as I remember, mine also came with the case and the book. One of the few games, if not the only game that lets you play as the zeon.
