Product Information

Declan Fitzgerald had always been the family maverick, but even he couldn't understand his impulse to buy a dilapidated mansion on the outskirts of New Orleans. All he knew was that ever since he first saw Manet Hall, he'd been enchanted -- and obsessed -- with it. So when the opportunity to buy the house comes up, Declan jumps at the chance to live out a dream. Determined to restore Manet Hall to its former splendor, Declan begins the daunting renovation room by room, relying on his own labor and skills. But the days spent in total isolation in the empty house take a toll. He is seeing visions of days from a century past, and experiencing sensations of terror and nearly unbearable grief -- sensations not his own, but those of a stranger. Local legend has it that the house is haunted, and with every passing day Declan's belief in the ghostly presence grows. Only the companionship of alluring Angelina Simone can distract him from the mysterious happenings in the house, but Angelina too has her own surprising connection to Manet Hall -- a connection that will help Declan uncover a secret that's been buried for a hundred years.

  • Could not PUT THIS ONE DOWN!!!

First of all although I really liked the book I had some hang ups My first was that I think Nora was doing a Interracial Romance on the "DL" (down low)(which will probably not bother anyone who is NOT a minority) she never clearly acknowledges that Lena is African American.... but there are other things throughout the book that leads me (who happens to be African American)to believe that she is. I guess it isn't much of a big deal as it doesn't take away from the storyline nor the plot, but their are other instances where she clearly writes in her book that someone was black yet when it comes to the leading heroine character she doesn't............ almost as if she doesn't want to acknowledge it??? I always wondered why no one had ever wrote a Romance Novel about a Slave owner and a ...

  • I *heart* Declan

Nora Roberts seems to be my author of choice at the moment. I read this much faster than I usually do because I hadn't been feeling well and I'm not a fan of TV. I don't know if that makes a difference because this book was just hard to put down anyway. I was in New Orleans/Baton Rouge for Mardi Gras in 2003 and she does such a good job with actually putting you on Bourbon Street and the bayou. The haunted house was enchanting. I was a little saddened by the lack of epilogue which nora usually provides but the story was good. And BTW: I Heart Declan..

  • Midnight Bayou...

This was very good. After Declan, the lawyer who quit his job to go to a place near New Orleans to move into an old house that he admired for some reason, but just didn't quite know why yet. He soon found out why... And it was spine tingling... :-) Read it and see... :-) I think you'll like it. I wonder if Nora Roberts wrote any more books like this or maybe one that follows this one? If anyone knows, please let it be known in your review. Susan

  • Suspense! Thriller! Romantic! Haunted House???

This is the second book by Nora Roberts (aka J.D. Robb) who writes the In Death series. This book is a page turner and full of suspense, love story and mystery! A great book for your collection especially for Nora Roberts fans!
