The Fisherman's "Bible" (in paperback)
My husband is a beginning fly fisherman. When I went to purchase holiday goodies for his "habit", a knowledgeable employee of BASS PRO Shops, with years of experience, gave this book his highest recommendation. He referred to it as the "fly fisherman's Bible". He indicated I might have trouble finding it, because it was published over 40 years ago and was no longer in print. But he also said if found, it would be worth whatever they were asking for it. The author is an entomologist (bug expert, like the guy on CSI). The book explains all about why fish respond to certain kinds of stimuli, bugs and their larvae. It gives hundreds of examples of what sort of enticing tidbits fish are looking for when they eat, so you know how and what to add when tying your flies. My husband is still ... In my opinion the best fly fishing pattern book ever.
This book(I purchased this one for my 12 yr.old grandson whom I'm teaching to fly fish and tie flies)is in my opinion the best fly pattern book I've ever seen. It not only gives you the patterns but when to use them during the day and which time of the year they are available to the fish. These patterns are the basic staple of the trout,yeah you can carry other flies if you want to but the patterns in this book are more than adequate for a great day on the stream. I'm saying this through experience of being a flyfisherman for 44 years and a fly tyer for 42 years,so believe me I know flyfishing and tying after all these years. This is the third copy that I've bought since I wore my first copy out years ago and had to purchase a new book for my own use.This book(I purchased this one for my 12 yr.old grandson whom I'm teaching to fly fish and tie flies)is in my opinion the best fly pattern book I've ever seen.
