À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Break into photography as a hobby or potential career with a Nikon EM SLR 35mm camera. This classic model is a small, solid tool made from copper-aluminum alloy. Since the metal has high-tensile strength, the camera body is extremely durable. It was introduced in 1979 as the first product with a revised category design. The Nikon FG and FG-20 were released shortly thereafter with the same layout. Although the EM has the feel of plastic, its covering actually contains a large amount of polycarbonate material. The unit is among the lightest of SLR cameras, weighing only about one pound. This little 35mm film camera has dimensions of 2.1 x 3.4 x 5.3 inches and goes anywhere with you. In addition to its compact form, the Nikon EM body has a simple set of controls. The various controls are the shutter release, shutter operation mode selector, backlight button, and self-timer. Find these controls on either the front or top of the device. The film advance controls are located on the back. The viewfinder, which is big and bright, has a fixed Nikon "K" focusing screen. Inside the finder, you see a ring - its outer diameter is where metering is emphasized. The camera has a metering range of EV2 to EV18. This design is called center-weighted metering in the photography world. When you start to take a picture, press the button halfway and watch the needle respond to the lighting situation. It drops from its original position at the top and then show the selected shutter speed. After you release the button, the meter stays active for about 20 seconds. The viewfinder covers about 92 percent of the picture field. It also has a 0.86x magnification when you are using a 50mm lens. This manual focus camera has an automatic exposure function that puts it in aperture priority mode at all times. Set an aperture on the lens, and then focus and shoot. The system determines the correct shutter speed on its own. The Nikon EM works well with shutter speeds from 1 to 1/1000 seconds. Beyond that range, it emits a high-pitched beep, allowing you to readjust the shooting aperture and try again. Besides AE, you are able to choose from two manual settings. M90 sets a mechanical speed of 1/90 seconds, while "B" stands for bulb and allows for long exposures. You don't need a shutter release cable, so you have the option to do timed exposures. With the "B" setting, keep the shutter open indefinitely. The exposure compensation button on the front of the camera gives you control when you are either over or underexposed. By pressing it, you activate the system and increase or decrease the exposure by two stops. For even more control, adjust the ASA/ISO film speeds. Use films from ASA/ISO 25 to 1600. The Nikon EM is compatible with a wide variety of system accessories. These include AI, AIS, AF, AF-n, AF-D, AF-I, and Non-G AF-s lenses. It has an instant-return reflex mirror and a built-in ISO-type hot shoe automatic flash synchronization at 1/90 seconds. This is used with the company's dedicated flash units.

  • Knock around camera...

I bought the camera mostly because because I wanted the 3 lens that the seller was offering with it, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I'm having using the EM. It's the perfect camera to take everywhere you might want a film camera as it's inexpensive and can be replaced (for now) fairly easily if lost. It's easy to use and I can use most of my lenses on it, so the quality of the shots is really as good as my other Nikons. With a 50mm f/1.8 E lens on it, it's small enough to carry along when I don't want to haul out all a larger camera. The metering seems quite accurate and it's easy enough to use the compensation button or adjust the ISO value to get the speed you want for the aperture you've selected. I'm actually thinking of getting ...

  • Not so suspicious when you keep it real

It was designed to meet the mass market for general consumers. The key to having one that works, and they do very good btw when they have been kept properly, is finding one that is clean, stored, and used very little. I have never seen a specific model of any manufacture that has been so abused as the EM. Many times when I come across one it's dirty, banged, up, beaten up, missing parts, and virtually trashed. The soccer ball of cameras I call it as a result. Find one that's undamaged and not missing any parts, with clean glossy black shine, no dings, dents, or gouging and I'll bet it's a winner. Pop in a battery, advance the film lever, and hit the shutter release in anything but B or m90, if it clicks it works. Next check the meter, if it responds it works, open the ...

  • Nikon EM - Ideal for a beginner in SLR Film photography

Introduced in 1979 this small aperture priority SLR has a mechanical speed M90 to bail you out if the battery dies suddenly. The Bulb 'B' mode also doesn't consume any battery! Great night shots are possible without running out of batteries. The lense mount is stainless steel and the top plate and bottom plates are made of Industrial Grade Polycarbonate. Rest of the body is made of metal hence it is very sturdy.Metering system is 60% centre weighted and it is quite reliable (though tends to become non-functional if the camera sits for months). Nikon EM takes all Nikkor AI and AIS lenses both MF and AF but doesn't take the new 'G' type lenses (ie without aperture ring).EM strictly speaking can't be called a classic Nikon like F2, FE, FM or F3 but in no way it is less reliable than these ...

  • Great Camera until it Breaks!

The Nikon EM is a good camera in a compact, easy to use design. It uses an automatic aperture priority auto exposure system. To take a photo with the Nikon EM... you just set the aperture on the lens. You then focus and shoot. The EM will automatically set the shutter speed for you. If your aperture forces the shutter speed outside of it's safe range between 1/30 to 1/1000 of a second, you will hear a beep which tells you to change the aperture. It was introduced in 1979 and that's the problem. These cameras are getting old and many require routine service. The problem is, it's difficult to find camera shops that will service them. I have checked with 4 online camera repair facilities and only 1 would service the EM I had and they said it would cost $125 just to look at ...

  • Great Camera

This product comes with the original case, the manual, strap and the camera is in great condition. The only issue I have with it is there is some dust on the mirror that I can’t seem to clean off, but I don’t think that have an effect on the picture quality. All in all, I love this camera. I used to have it when I was a kid and it is taking me back to good times. Thank you!
