Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold Edition builds upon the Civilization franchise originally conceived by Sid Meier and Brian Reynolds. This upgraded version contains everything in Civilization II and its expansion packs, Civilization II: Fantastic Worlds and Civilization II: Conflicts in Civilization, along with a few upgrades.<br><br>Still using a turn-based system, gameplay remains almost the same. Your main objective is to either conquer the complete world or be the first civilization to have your spaceship reach another planet. Changes in single-player mode made from Civilization II include minor adjustments to items, such as the attack and defense ratings of some of the military units, the governments and the terrain.<br><br>The main addition is the ability to play against human opponents as the title suggests. Up to seven people can compete via LAN, Internet or by alternating turns in the mode called "Hot Seat." During "Hot Seat" play, the computer controls the diplomatic functions of all of the players except for the player controlling the current turn. The game also contains some of the best scenarios created by game players as determined by the designers.

the only game for intelligent people
One can never have to many Civ 2 game disks. While it is almost always on any top 100 game lists for a PC, generally in the top 10, it is far more than a first shooter/or turn based logic puzzle gaming platform. the scope of the game is 6000 years for gosh sakes that point alone makes it almost unique. the true challenge to Civ 2 comes from the skill test each and every new game presents....no two world maps are ever exactly the same, and based upon random location and topographic implications anything from an easy street path to the rocket ship, to an all out full-bore bare fist scratch and claw just to survive is possible...makes divorce court seem like sunday school teddy bears ice cream social. there is frankly no game that offers the real world implication on a scale both workable and ... Great old game
This is one of the best turn based games ever. I've been playing it since about a week after it was released. The store in the local mall sold out very quickly and I had to wait for a second shipment. Now I got an old laptop, put Windows 10 Pro 32 bit on it because it would be too dog slow otherwise and I have been playing this and some other ancient games on it for whole days now. I have no idea as to where or how else you can play this game although some old games such as Master of Orion, Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny and Civilization 3 are available on apps such as Good Old Games and Steam. Great Addon Scenerios
There are lots of variations in the scenerios. You can play for months to figure out how to play all the different games. They is a Master of Orion game, dinosaurs, and exploring Mars. You spend all night going for that one more turn. Building new cities and exploring the different worlds. This game is reasonable prices considering how many hours of play you will receive.

I can't play it online, which was the major reason I got it. Perhaps it's incompatible with Windows XP for this purpose?
