Coming up screaming from the depths of Florida - there being no scarier state in the union - Marilyn Manson cannily positioned themselves as a goth-industrial hybrid on their debut album, Portrait of an American Family. At this stage in their evolution, Marilyn Manson was clearly a band, not just the project of Brian Warner, aka Mr. Manson, who would later simply adopt his band's name as his own. Also, horror-show schlock was a bigger factor than it would be later on, when he wanted to be the Antichrist Superstar for the world at large. In other words, it's Manson at his silliest, singing about "My Monkey" and "Snake Eyes and Sissies." Nevertheless, beneath all the camp shock there are signs of Warner's unerring eye for genuine outrage and musical talent, particularly on the trio of "Cake and Sodomy," "Lunchbox," and "Dope Hat.

Very satisfied!
My favorite album by Manson and in general. It is as described and plays perfectly! It skipped on Cyclops the first time I played it, but I cleaned it off with a cloth I use to clean my glasses, popped it back in, and there were no problems. Been playing it nonstop the past couple days and I couldn't be happier (-:

Turning music on its head.
Marilyn Manson came into my life during the summer of 1994 and he has been an inspiration of mine ever since. The video for 'Get Your Gun', which came out before the album release, was my gateway. It totally scared me to death, which I happen to love, I was so afraid I had to buy this album. Now, more than 12 years have past, this is album is probably more relevant than his newer stuff. This album is way before he became hollywood, and many of his industrial influences reign strong. With songs like Cake and Sodomy he really tries to cross many boundaries while making an effort to display his personal beliefs, asking "whoever said date rape isn't kind". Get your Gun is also a powerful instrument for turning the whole world on it's head, tackling day-time talkshows, pretending to have ... Lunchbox, tackles school bullies, and tells kids to stand up for themselves. This song was thought to be a catalyst in the Columbine School shootings, with lyrics in the song saying "I've got my lunchbox and I'm armed real well." Dogma, which is my favorite song from the album, attacks religous zealots and tells them " God is nothing that you favor, and evil is your sour flavor, I don't need your hate-I decide my fate-you can not sedate all the things you hate." I think Manson is trying to convey how when we judge then we are disrespectful to others and the ways they may believe. All the rest of the songs are pretty good, but these four were his big break. With his gang of friends 'the spooky kids and Trent Reznor' he really hits a homerun with this album.

Monument to his success
I have to give props to Marilyn Manson who made me into the gothic I am today. You never heard his music curve without hearing the album before it. The first of his mainstream releases and I don't bag on the other band members who also helped in making MManson the greatest

Wish I could give another half star, but I’ll just say here that it’s 4 and 1/2 stars.
Besides one good sized crack in the case, causing me to have to get a new one, the CD is m i n t and the case is alright! 10/10 would recommend

FANTASTIC music, the cd holder case was poor but the cd played great.
I would kill or die for Marilyn Manson. He is the best musician I have ever heard and the most humble, fun guy I've ever known. That is why I bought his cd. I plan on collecting all of them and now I know every lyric to the tracks to this cd. I dislike the quality this cd I ordered is in. The box it cruddy an broken but as Lon as my cd plays without skipping, I'll deal. I can't compare this cd to anything else I have bought from eBay because I haven't bought anything else.I would kill or die for Marilyn Manson.
