Silver iPod 4GB Gen 2: Good enough, but not great.
I see tons of mixed reviews on this item, so I'm not sure what eBay links these reviews to. I will say that my review is specifically for the 2nd Generation Apple iPod Nano. Mine was the silver 4 Gigabyte model. The positive things about this iPod is that it is a slick item. Very cool-looking. Small, sleek, a metal/aluminum looking case that outclasses the 1st generation iPod "plastic". If anyone is familiar with the iPod mini, this case is similar to that version. The ipod sounds great also. I've hooked it up to speakers in the car, a portable iPod speaker system to blast on the assembly line where I worked, and just threw it on an armband and carried it around for a few walks. Now, I'll mention where it fails: No FM receiver, and the synching via iTunes is a hassle and hard to get used to. I much prefer a file based system where I can just slide over the songs into a folder and let it be done. iTunes makes it difficult for an old school kind of guy to manage these files. I have no patience and iTunes raked on what little I had. Younger folks will love the iPod, but probably be disappointed in an older generation. Kids these days! They certainly will look a gift horse in the mouth! I had a hard time managing to keep track of this slim mp3 player, but the newer ones (3rd generation) are even smaller yet! I'd love to read up on the stories of folks who have lost that expensive device by it slipping into a place you'd never expect. I'm guessing the city dump has brand new iPods that accidentally slid into some paperwork that went into the trash. Sad! All in all, it is a good unit. I wanted to rate a 3.5 but can't. I don't know if I'd call this thing "good" or "average". When new, I suppose it was good. In August of 2008, it is average. Especially with the lack of options many other mp3 players do have.

Good not great
bought this Ipod, because i really needed something to do while working out and when just bored. I have found this Ipod to be very good, but there are some things i don't like. 1. The clickwheel is very loud, and easy to get dirty. 2. The screen is small, and very hard to clean, while collecting dust VERY easily. 3. Apple says battery life is 24 hours. I don't know which battery they used, but not the one used in mine. The battery lasts between 10-13 hours. Still, this is an improvement over the last generation. My daughter has one, and her battery lasts 6-8 hours only. Also, cases and stuff is very expensive. I would definately reccomend this ipod, as it holds enough songs for most people (500), and it is only $149 dollars. Also, i would NOT buy it off ebay. I bought an Ipod Shuffle ... bought this Ipod, because i really needed something to do while working out and when just bored. Mixed Feelings
I wanted it because I love music and have a vast collection and wanted to have something portable and small to listen to music on, particularly as I got a new car that has an ipod hook up. I like it because it is compact, but to be honest, it is not the best product. I am not sure but doubt the larger ones are much better. I feel that the time it takes to get YOUR CD collection onto THEIR iTunes so you can load it onto your ipod is ridiculous, I understand copyright, but they should make it easier. I also think quality varies in terms of sound, even when you purchase from them---and the menu is VERY sensitive and it comes with no instructions and makes you feel like an idiot if you do not realise that you need extreme finger agility to operate it---it is too touch sensitive and if you are ... Ipod nano is the best thing to happen to happen to digital music since the iPod itself. I bought this in hopes to have the next cool thing out there, ( i had a mini before and sold it to buy a nano because i didn't have 1000 songs and i wanted to have pictures) When i first got it it was GREAT, i plugged it in and all the sudden within about ten minutes it was updated with the latest software and it had all my music and pictures on it. Then things went bad. I was going on a trip that day and when i was back i noticed my iPod nano was scratched. it had not been abused, or even near something that could have scratched it. Go to any store with one on display and you'll see that pretty much whenever you touch it it scratches. YOU MUST BUY A SKIN AND SCREEN PROTECTORS OR IT WILL BE SCRATCHED ... Because the screen is just under the plastic that covers the front of the nano the whole screen is very vulnerable to scartches and smudges which are very hard to get off on this certain plastic. Positives: small and sleek holds all the music most people need is great if you want pictures but not video in my opinion sound quality is pretty good. Negatives: More Fragile Than a glass ornament screen is too small for pictures apple's customer support is really bad no wall charger, a big problem for those of us that can't get to our usb ports easily on our cpu. if you are looking for a great toy buy a psp. if you are looking for a mp3 player, try something else. if you must have this, get a knight's armour!

Great item, BUT...
The Apple Ipod is a great mp3. It is small. easy to use. The battery last long. It can get very loud. But there is no way to transfer music from one computer to another. Meaning that it has to be loaded on your itunes. You can put music on your Ipod but you can not load it off to your Itunes. It seems Apple wants you to buy music from them and not be able to transfer it.
