Just coming out of a divorce and facing the resurrection of an old situation that could ruin his career, Glass is slowly but surely sucked into Tramell's web when he takes her on as a private therapy client. Day by day Glass realizes that she has infiltrated more of his personal relationships, which also leads him to question why so many people in his circle are suffering questionable fates.Each time Glass is convinced that Tramell is guilty, she diverts suspicion in another direction. Does gossip magazine writer Adam Towers (Hugh Dancy) plan to reveal a deadly decision that Glass made in his past? Is Det. Washburn really the upstanding cop he appears to be? Is Glass's ex-wife, Denise (Indira Varma) trying to sabotage his career? Just coming out of a divorce and facing the resurrection of an old situation that could ruin his career, Glass is slowly but surely sucked into Here's a name that's a major British blast from the past, especially as a co-star with Dirk Bogarde: Charlotte Rampling ("Night Porter," erotic Nazi sadism film banned in the US). Rampling plays the senior psychiatrist colleague of the younger man who takes on the legal assessment of Catherine Tramell after the male passenger in her speeding sports car winds up dead after they end up under water. This time the tension's building between Dr. Glass, the UK's appointed shrink who's examining Tramell. Or so his thinks like Nick-Shooter did, in "Basic Instinct." Dr. Glass becomes Catherine Tramell's subject for her next novel, "The Analyst." Just like she did to the detective who was investigating her life in the 1st film of the series, Tramell's turning the gaze back on the scrutinizer: he doesn't like it either. Tramell is clever enough to manipulate Glass from the moment she enters his office. Sound familiar? It should. As a tabloid magazine write, Adam Towers, Hugh Dancy, makes plans to expose a fatal choice that Dr. Glass made with a former patient, Towers wind's up dead. Towers is more of a key character than we are led to suspect. He's published an article about the detective (Washburn) that has virtually been ignored. It exposes Det. Washburn as the dirtiest cop on the force. When Glass learns that his former wife, Denise, Indira Varma, is dating Towers and Tramell, he's driven to the brink of outrage. As Tramell toys with Glass's emotions, trying to draw out the killer instint he harbors within, he turns into the person in desperate need of psychiatric treatment! I think that the psychological drama in this sequel is far more sophisticated and complex than the first. Perhaps that's why the general audience didn't take to it quite as well. It may go over their heads. This film doesn't pretend to be be dumb for the under-educated. Instead, it plays to the well educated who can follow the turns and untie the braids woven into the plot. Sharon Stone gives one of the best performances of her career and she's hot. Very very hot! (and so is her senior, Charlotte Rampling)~

You simply cannot take your eyes off of her perennially, it seems, gorgeous face and body. In her other roles, other than arguably in "Casino," there is a falseness in Stone's approach as if there is a scrim between her and us...her technique "shows" and she is simply not effective. But in both "Basic Instincts," Stone has found the role of a lifetime: one in which everything about her persona, her acting abilities and her charisma come together and form a cogent performance. And believe me, Stone's Catherine Tramell is a chew-the-scenery, gut-splitting, batten-down-the-hatches p-e-r-f-o-r-m-a-n-c-e. "Basic Instinct 2" is much ... "Basic Instinct 2" is much better than it has any right to be: the screenplay, is pretty good, David Morrissey as Dr. Andrew Glass: Catherine's foil, plaything, Psychiatrist, though at first kind of a stick in the mud...ends up being an interesting, edgy character. The sublime Charlotte Rampling is also on hand to add weight and substance to the proceedings as Glass' mentor. But the real acting honors go to David Thewlis as a slimy, maybe-lying-maybe not lying, conniving, profanity spouting detective Roy Washburn. Thewlis chews through all the plot machinations and screenplay inconsistencies with his sterling acting chops. "Basic Instinct 2" is ultimately an effective entertainment though not quite on the level of a so-bad-it's good, way, way over-the-top movie like "Showgirls." If anything "B.I. 2" is too safe, too perfect looking for it's own good.

The DVD was in good condition. Like some sequels this movie was just ok, somewhat predictable, and lots of action.

The best twisty thriller I have ever seen!
This movie is not for the weak at heart! Fast paced, very adult content and who done it? The end leaves you spell bound. This is by far the best movie I have seen in years. Sharon Stone is so believable and leaves you confused the whole show. Grab your significant other and make this a week end movie night, you won't be disappointed!
