I'm a big Shirley Temple fan...BUT !!
Even though I am a really big fan of Shirley Temple and James Dunn (also a big fan of classic movies in general), Stand Up and Cheer was a real disappointment. Because this was Shirley's first real movie by a major studio, they only featured her in the one dance sequence and then one other shot. My guess the purpose of the movie was for patriotic purposes, which is ok....but it just wasn't a good movie. But if you haven't seen the subsequent Shirley Temple movies, please see them as they are wonderful. I think once the studio realized what they had in her, they began to make really good movies that made her the main focus (like they should have in this one).Even though I am a really big fan of Shirley Temple and James Dunn (also a big fan of classic movies in general), Stand Up and Cheer was a real disappointment. The best part of the Shirley Temple film is that it is a dvd and not a vhs tape because vhs tapes are out of style and they have no value because they are not making Vhs machines anymore. Dvd's are in style and are popular to collect. In addition to the collectibility of the "Stand Up and Cheer dvd is the fact that it is Shirley Temple's first full length film that she was in after she made several 'short' films. Shirley is excellent and shines, though she only has one song and dance routine with actor, James Dunn, whom had been in the next two successful films starring with Shirley Temple; "Baby takes a Bow," and " Bright Eyes." The movie is average and only in black and white; but rather the elements of theme focus on the Great Depression; hence I am guessing that the film was not added ... Shirley Temple dolls
I have 4 great grand-daughters. I am 82 yrs. old. I loved Shirley Temple when I was a child and think that the younger generation is missing something. I got it in my mind to give each of them a vintage Shirley Temmple doll for this Christmas, along with a DVD of one of her movies and a few home made chothes for it, the younger ones can play with it and the older ones, start a collection. It is almost an investment for them. I had to bid on ebay quite a few times in order to acquire 4 of them that I could afford. Nowhere else would I be able to do this.
