Synopsis
In this book President Carter shares his intimate knowledge of the history of the Middle East and his personal experiences of the principal actors, and he addresses sensitive political issues many British and American officials shy from. This is a challenging and provocative book., Following his #1 "New York Times" bestseller, "Our Endangered Values," the former president, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, offers an assessment of what must be done to bring permanent peace to Israel with dignity and justice to Palestine. President Carter, who was able to negotiate peace between Israel and Egypt, has remained deeply involved in Middle East affairs since leaving the White House. He has stayed in touch with the major players from all sides in the conflict and has made numerous trips to the Holy Land, most recently as an observer in the Palestinian elections of 2005 and 2006. In this book President Carter shares his intimate knowledge of the history of the Middle East and his personal experiences with the principal actors, and he addresses sensitive political issues many American officials avoid. Pulling no punches, Carter prescribes steps that must be taken for the two states to share the Holy Land without a system of apartheid or the constant fear of terrorism. The general parameters of a long-term, two-state agreement are well known, the president writes. There will be no substantive and permanent peace for any peoples in this troubled region as long as Israel is violating key U.N. resolutions, official American policy, and the international "road map" for peace by occupying Arab lands and oppressing the Palestinians. Except for mutually agreeable negotiated modifications, Israel's official pre-1967 borders must be honored. As were all previous administrations since the founding of Israel, U.S. government leaders must be in the forefront of achieving this long-delayed goal of a just agreement that both sides can honor. "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid" is achallenging, provocative, and courageous book., Following his #1 "New York Times" bestseller "Our Endangered Values," the former president and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize offers a courageous assessment of what must be done to bring permanent peace to Israel with dignity and justice to Palestine.

  • A SECOND CONSIDERATION

This book is not "Newly Published". HOWEVER - With The PRESENT World Situation, may we "Consider" the thoughts of "This Good Christian Man". No one can think "This Author" is DEVOID of background knowledge. A book for every home library, everyone tired of WARS and ENDLESS KILLING.

  • An Honest-Truthful look at the middle-east problem

Never has there been a book that will more accuratley solidfy and represent a presidency as well as his legacy than Jimmy Carter's latest book does. A man of great integrity and honest appeal to all that is good in mankind he presents a most blunt, accurate, truthful, and un-biased assesment of why there continues to be unrest in the volitale region that is the Holy land. No other U.S. representative of any level or stature has had more experience and an intimate understanding of the problems of this land than Mr. Carter does. He like I have frequented the Israeli/Palestinan territories enough times to understand that there is only one true instigator in this whole conundrom that we call the Holy Land, and that instigator unfortunatly is the Israeli government but more accuratle the ...

  • A Great Book by a Great Man

This book is very controversial in the press, but in reading it I find it to be a clear, neutral and fair evaluation of the problems existing in the middle East for the last 45 years. Jimmy Carter has been called anti Semitic in response to this book, which is unconscionable to me. Anyone who has followed his career would know he is a man of high morals with a passion for human rights of ALL people and this book just continues to pursue this purpose. He has been highly involved with all players in the middle East and has lays out the history of what has happened, the attitudes and opinions of all the involved countries and leaders and parameters of the various accords that have been put in place, who kept them, who broke them, what has resulted, etc. This is a topic of vital ...

  • Very appropiate title!

President Carter was a poor president. Since he left office, however, he became a lot wiser! I bought the book because I wanted to know how he would now (in 2006) deal with the Israeli/Palestinian problem. Critique for his book comes from all kinds of Jewish sources, but if one reads this book carefully and knows a bit the history of Israel since the Truman days, one understands that Israel has been and will be in the future a great problem for the US. This is not only caused by Israel's bad policy towards the Palestinians but also by the misguided policy of the US towards the Palestinians. The future - in years or even in decades - will tell whether or not Carter was right what he wrote in this book.
