À propos de ce produit

Product Information

The book that Entertainment Weekly called "hilarious," Publishers Weekly declared "a true pleasure," Booklist called "heartwarming," and the Dallas Morning News praised as "rich and funny" is now available in paperback. When Bob Tarte bought a house in rural Michigan, he was counting on a tranquil haven. Then Bob married Linda. She wanted a rabbit, which seemed innocuous enough until the bunny chewed through their electrical wiring. And that was just the beginning. Before long, Bob found himself constructing cages, buying feed, clearing duck waste, and spoon-feeding a menagerie of furry and feathery residents. His life of quiet serenity vanished, and he unwittingly became a servant to a relentlessly demanding family. "They dumbfounded him, controlled and teased him, took their share of his flesh, stole his heart" ( Kirkus Reviews ). Whether commiserating with Bob over the fate of those who are slaves to their animals or regarding his story as a cautionary tale about the rigors of animal ownership, readers on both sides of the fence have found Tarte's story of his chaotic squawking household irresistible--and irresistibly funny.

  • just substitute cats...

...and linda did to bob what i did to my husband. ok, i didn't have quite the number of cats that they have fowl, but the principle is the same. some of the stories are absolutely hilarious; others are heartbreaking. through it all, bob tarte's honesty shines. there is no doubt that he lived every page. it's comforting to know there are like-minded people, who find value in weaving animals into the fabric of their lives. instead of viewing their care as a chore, it can become a kind of meditation, a service to something larger than ourselves while also part of ourselves. i can recommend the book without reservation to anyone who has ever loved a pet. i'm not sure that someone who doesn't already love animals would enjoy it; it might be too far into the deep end for that person. but i ...

  • Enslaved by Ducks give it a chance

I read a favorable review on this book about how funny it was. Saw it on eBay and decided to get it just to have for a next read. I thought I would give it the first 10 pages and then I would know. This is one funny, humurous book. Easy read, no earth shattering events oin on here, just a fun easy beach, or vacation read.

  • Enslaved by Ducks

I found the book dry, bland, uneventful. Nothing like it was advertised - that I'd fall off my chair laughing. We tried three times to read it, even skipping to the last chapter to see if it ended better. It didn't. Sorry.
