À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Beyond Consequences, Logic, and Control covers in detail the effects of trauma on the body-mind and how trauma alters children's behavioral responses. The first four chapters help parents and professionals clearly understand the neurological research behind the basic model given in this book, deemed, 'The Stress Model.' While scientifically based in research, it is written in an easy to understand and easy to grasp format for anyone working with or parenting children with severe behaviors. The next seven chapters are individually devoted to seven behaviors typically seen with attachment-challenged children. These include lying, stealing, hoarding and gorging, aggression, defiance, lack of eye contact, and yes, even a chapter that talks candidly about how parents appear hostile and angry when they work to simply maintain their families from reaching complete states of chaos. Each of these chapters talks in depth on these specific behaviors and gives vivid and contrasting examples of how this love-based approach works to foster healing and works to develop relationships, as opposed to the fear-based traditional attachment parenting approaches that are being advocated in today's attachment field. The authors end with a Parenting Bonus Section: true testimonials from parents who have been able to make significant changes in their homes with this model of parenting, giving real-life examples of how they have been able to find the healing, peace, and love that they had been seeking prior to working through the techniques outlined in this book.

  • not worth the ebay price even

Bought this because I have 2 children with RAD so read all I can get on it- couldn't even get through it because the whole thing is so ridiculous- basic premise seems to be that if you have kids with RAD and their behaviors upset you you need to go get therapy to deal with your own unresolved issues from childhood that are causing you to lose patience with their lying, stealing, intentionally urinating and defecating on things, etc- because they are just acting out of fear and you should be able to be completely calm and understanding about that....Later read that "dr" post bought his PhD at a diploma mill and is generally a questionable character. So my recommendation is find a good therapist and read lots of OTHER books on RAD if you want real help.

  • A definitive work on loving traumatized children

This book is one of the definitive works on parenting traumatized children. These would be children whose behavior goes way beyond 'bratty' behavior. If you have a child who's been diagnosed with anything like Reactive Attachment Disorder, Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD, anything like that, I highly recommend this book. If you are the parent of a child that you adopted from the foster care system or from a foreign country and you can't figure out why your child is behaving the way that he or she does, you need this book. What I like about this approach is that first, they explain to you why your children are the way they are. They let you know that your child's misbehavior, their tendencies to do things that you just don't understand, are not born of evil ...

  • TERRIBLE BOOK FOR RAD

This book ended up NOT helping us and causing more issues than anything. It blames the parent for the mental issues and not the adopted child who has all the issues. It will literally make the struggling parent feel guilt and blame for all the adopted child's trauma/drama. We kept our adopted sone 2 and a half years because of this book, doing everything it instructed.......and then it was to the point because of this book I became co-dependant on this child who now at the age of 5 had envisioned a plan to KILL us. DO NOT buy this book, it is NOT worth it. We ended up re-homing our son and it was the BEST choice in the world, he is doing great, he bonded with his new mum and is flourishing. As well as my other 5 children are now safe!

  • A God send

This book has opened my eyes to the correlation between trauma, parenting, and how to manage a child with mood disorders.

  • Excellent book

This is one of many copies of this book I have purchased for parents and colleagues. Great for guiding parents in parenting children with Reactive Attachment Disorder. Gently guides without blame or shame, assists the parents in identifying who is responsible for the behavior and allowing the child to take ownership of the behavior, it demonstrates parenting with love.
