Will flat out sew! No straining through thicker fabrics.
I bought this machine mostly for a lot of heavy duty sewing after researching various models and their reviews. Once you learn the digital aspect, it will perform as promised. However, I personally like a tighter tension on the zigzag than the preset zigzag tension for my purposes, so I have to reset the tension each time I go to use it. Also, if you like having a tail of thread to start the next section, don't use the cutter button. It cuts the thread at the throat plate. That's fine if you plan to remove the thread and bobbin immediately after using the cutter button. Also, Singer recommends Class 15 bobbins (and includes a few with the machine), NOT Class 15J as I kept reading from various vendors' descriptions. (Experience on previous machines taught me that the wrong bobbin size ... I bought this machine mostly for a lot of heavy duty sewing after researching various models and their reviews. Excellent Value
The 9600 is wonderful. Sturdy, quiet, but easy to use. Threading needle is quick as is bobbin placement. Thread trimmer feature is great. I am an accomplished sewer who has used a Viking purchased in '81. I was looking for high quality, sturdy (some weight to it), computerized, and with decorative stitches. 9960 meets all my needs and then some. Machine came with numerous feet, including a walking foot, easy to switch feet. Hand controls as well as foot peddle. I have utilized each. I think this machine is an excellent value for the advanced or new sewer. If you include web site and fun YouTube videos your all set to sew. This "Not so Little" machine is an extraordinary value!
This machine is the one you never know you needed! I bought my Quantum Stylist 9960 to supplement my Janome HD3000 as I found that the Janome was a little bit too powerful for detailed tasks. Let me rephrase that. My Janome + my Lead Foot = hours of ripping out stitches because I could never master that sewing pedal to slow it down. Well, here are my impressions of this Singer. First off; this machine has been out of manufacture since 2016 I read. It also is the second edition of the original 2009 version (you can tell you have the newer version if you have digital controls to lighten and darken the LED screen; the original version had a dial that was located in the spool and bobbin winding compartment up top of the machine). This version has a very good auto thread cutter. So long as ... This machine is the one you never know you needed! This version has a very good auto thread cutter. So long as you use it correctly, it should last you the life of the machine. The original thread cutter failed a bit too often, and had to be replaced as a unit. The newer version has replaceable components if it ever fails (don't ever engage it without fabric and thread...top and bottom). This machine sews like a good quality machine should. It's NOT built by Singer. It is actually built by the HappyJapan sewing machine company; a company that has a stellar reputation for solid, dependable machines around the world (think Kenmore sewing machines...basically a re-branded Janome). It complete stitches at the touch of a button. It can sew without a pedal (a great addition to those with disabilities) by simply pressing "Start" after the foot is lowered; provided you lower the presser foot first and unplug the pedal. It comes with an awesome array of accessories, tons and tons of tutorials through Singer or YouTube. It's been taken apart and shown online to be a very solidly built machine (it's plastics are in all the right places, and the metal moving parts are quality built). This is a HEAVY machine, fair warning. It's NOT heavy duty. In saying that, it will sew heavier projects, provided you use the correct needle and settings. This machine can be used in tandem with a side cutter foot, essentially turning it into a serger, or with a ruffler, for people who like ruffles on stuff (not my cup of tea). Provided with it is also an adjustable extension table; complete with measuring scale on it. I LOVE that part. Its perfect for bigger projects, like blankets or napsacks. It's a generally quiet machine, and sews a TON of button holes, for those interested in making clothes or needing button holes on projects. It can free motion embroider, as well as sew pre-programmed (and personalizable) patterns programmed into it. You can also put some of these programs you customize into it's memory, or mirror a pattern, etc. With 600 stitches, it's mind boggling. This machine does need a yearly trip to the repair shop for general oiling and adjusting, and I've learned it will tell you so at some point if you haven't had it serviced under normal to heavy use. If it's out of warranty, and you're skilled enough to remove the cabinet and do your own servicing (including changing the cutter blade, a simple enough task, but required the entire cabinet be removed), you could easily buy a PDF service manual online for it. It also has the code sequence to shut off the service warning. In Canada at least, Singer, like Brother, has made getting warranty work done a big hassle. This is due to the fact that they've located repair depots FAR AWAY from city centers, in hopes (I assume) that you would rather just have it fixed on your own dime rather than cost them money to have their defects repaired. THAT is my biggest beef with this machine. I'm not sure if this is the same anywhere else in the world, but here, it's a big pain in the neck. On the other side of the coin, though...unlike Janome, who REQUIRE their customers to fork over about 100$ Canuck bucks for a manual on how to use their sewing feet, and specialty feet, Singer gives that information out GRATIS! There are loads of videos on YouTube showing you how everything works on this machine, how all the included feet (there is so much included, it's really cool) feet work; what to use them for, etc. Janome...as nice a machine as I have, I literally had to hunt the planet for a bloody extension table for my HD3000. I could have bought a third party one at premium money, but to get an actual branded Janome table, that wasn't easy. Singer...they just include one, and all of their machines can be fitted with manufactured by Singer extension tables for their current lineup of machines that don't come with that accessory included. Do I recommend this machine? Yes, absolutely I do. Do I love it's features. Yup, I do indeedy. Do I think it's a game changer for someone that needs an forgiving machine to helm their projects? To an extend I do. One NEEDS to mind that cutter. If you engage it without thread, fabric, the foot down, needle in it, etc, you could damage the blade. Fair warning

Sewing Machine of the Future
This Digital sewing machine has over 600 stitches. Coming from an older mechanical sewing machine all the ease of use features this has just blows me away. Auto-threading, push button sewing(optional pedal), auto tension, just to name a few. Also comes with a dust-cover and carrying handle. This product screams quality. I haven't had it for very long, but as long as it lasts, this was an awesome buy.This Digital sewing machine has over 600 stitches. This machine is good but not great
Although my buying experience was great. I will say I’m a bit underwhelmed with this machine. It feels very plastic and maybe it’s because I’m used to selling on an old school sewing machine, this just doesn’t feel like it was built to last. It has many features that are great and definitely make sewing easier but has definitely hassle some hiccups and glitches already. Overall i think it’s a good machine, it just did not live up to my expectations for the money. Although my buying experience was great. I will say I’m a bit underwhelmed with this machine. It feels very plastic and maybe it’s because I’m used to selling on an old school sewing machine, this just doesn’t feel like it was built to last. It has many features that are great and definitely make sewing easier but has definitely hassle some hiccups and glitches already.
