Event Horizon
Event Horizon is easily one of the most creepy movies of the 90's. The setting is perfect for the story line. Simply the idea of being on the opposite end of our solar system with noone but the group you are with is scary. Add to that a ship that is dark, intimidating and occupied by whatever you fear. Now you have the making of a true horror classic. Not to mention the "dark iron" look that the entire film possesses. The actual Event Horizon ship is amazing. It is almost a throw back to the early 1900's, simpily stunning. The acting and the makeup in the film is awesome as well. You can just feel the fear that the characters are dealing with in this movie. The different personalities mesh completely with eachother. The makeup crew did a truly outstanding job. You GOT to See This If You Are A Horror & Sci-Fi Lover
Event Horizon was written by Philip Eisner. The film was directed by Paul W. Anderson who was also responsible for Resident Evil and Alien-VS- Predator. Starring Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne, we find ourselves swept into this space adventure with awe and wonder. Yet Fear is always present. We find that the heart stopping moments close to the end Captain Miller decides to blow the ship is tremendously enjoyable and tense. You may become mesmerized if watched alone at night with all the lights off where you can properly get swept up in it's claustrophobic atmosphere. We learn that the ship has brought back evil from another dimension. Dr. Weir is continually haunted by his dead wife (Holley Chant) who committed suicide years earlier. A salvage ship called The Lewis And Clark is sent out to investigate and brings along Dr William Weir (Sam Neil), a physics expert originally responsible for the ship's creation. They dock with the Horizon but find no signs of life and as they set about making repairs, the crew begins to experience hallucinations and sense that they are not totally alone. Event Horizon was initially unfairly dismissed by mainstream movie critics as a cross between Alien and Hell-Raiser. In my opinion this film will eventually be ranked among the classics. This movie works on your own sense of unease and seems to culminate on the crew's growing sense of anxiety and paranoia. There is no definitive explanation given for what they are experiencing. Another Dimension may exist within the workings of this space ship but are only left to wonder whether we are actually parked on the edge of hell itself. The Lewis and Clark space ship was modeled after the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. As Sam Neill (Dr. Weir) says at the end, "You'll never need eyes again where we are going." 5/5 for perfection and scariness. The double set is well worth the extra disc. GOOD SCI-FI MOVIE THAT COMBINES SCI-FI WITH HORROR. GREAT STORY LINE. I LIKE THE SCENES THAT JUMP OUT AND FRIGHTEN YOU ENEXPECTEDLY. I BOUGHT THIS DVD TO GO ALONG WITH MY OTHER SPACE SCI-FI DVD'S LIKE ALIEN AND PLANET OF THE APES ETC. LAWRENVE FISHBURN GIVES A BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE AS THE CREWS' CAPTAIN. SOME GROSS OUT SCENES ARE NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! A MUST FOR YOUR DVD COLLECTION.
