They do just that in ESCAPE FROM L.A., an explosive film that recalls the classic original in all the best ways. Infamous adventurer Snake Plissken gets another raw deal when he is forced to rescue the President's daughter from the new prison island of Los Angeles. Mayhem ensues as Snake goes about his mission, leaving a wake of destruction behind him. Lighter and more tongue in cheek than the original, ESCAPE FROM L.A. provides loud, violent fun for both the fans of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK as well as newcomers to the films. There are great cameos provided by Peter Fonda, Bruce Campbell, Pam Grier and many more that give the film an extra layer of entertainment. Great special effects are a given in Carpenter films, and this one is no exception. ESCAPE FROM L.A. is fun fare from a master filmmaker.

Escape From L.A. 'Classic To Own'
Some would watch this movie after viewing the original film and complain endlessly about the over-the-top style of the film, but not me. True, the film borrows from the basic setup of the first film and is now outdated in reference the events that caused the separation of L.A from the mainland in (according to the movie) 1998. Regardless, these small inconsistencies can be ignored as most movies are only loosely based on reality anyway. The film has a simple plot, Snake is arrested then immediately recruited for a mission of vital importance in exchange for a full pardon, but he only has roughly 9 hrs to complete the mission (reasons revealed in the movie). This gives the movie a sense of urgency in my opinion and makes for a swift action-packed adventure. Snake Plissken is the ... He lies, he cheats, has vices and distances himself from the standard by-the-book hero. Snake is a rogue and Kurt Russell is great in the role. Yeah, there are plot inconsistencies, and yes it's over-the-top, but as an example I would point out that 'Titanic' was over-the-top as well in the romance department, yet people raved over the film during its' release. Throw caution to the wind and give Escape from L.A. a try.

Like New York, Los Angeles has been turned into a prison island for the United State's most undesirable criminals, like New York, Los Angeles is surrounded by a wall so no convict can escape from L.A and once deported to L.A. you can never return to the American mainland which has become a moral society. 16-years after he escaped from New York, One-Eyed former soldier Snake Plissken now the United State's most wanted outlaw is once again given another job for his freedom by the new President and L.A's security commander Malloy. Snake is sent into L.A. to recover a doomsday device that shuts all power sources on Earth from brutal terrorist Curevo Jones and the President's runaway daughter Utopia who has been brainwashed by Curveo into stealing the doomsday device, and the ... The year is 2013. Like New York, Snake is injected with a engineered virus which will kill him in 9 hours if Snake fails the mission, if Snake succeeds in completing the mission, he will be given the antidote. Entering L.A, now inhabited by criminals, runaway teenagers, prostitutes and brutal gangs. Snake sets out to recover the doomsday device and kill Utopia, as Curevo and his army of terrorists prepares to invade the United States and can Snake escape from L.A. before the virus kills him in 9 hours. Kurt Russell is brilliant as Snake. This movie is great.

LOVE this movie!!
This is Kurt Russell at his best and in my eyes mixing a little action, a little humor, and a lot of sarcasm rolled into one. I loved the character of Snake in the original but regardless of how this movie might otherwise be chastised for being too much like the original, I loved Snake even better in this one. He's older, wiser, and still my fave anti-hero! View this movie in a different light - I've seen some call it a satire and when viewed that way, it makes much more sense. I don't mind the borrowed antics from the first film - here, I think Kurt takes Snake to another level when you look at him as a more mature Snake whose even more annoyed with the world he's living in.This is Kurt Russell at his best and in my eyes mixing a little action, a little humor, and a lot of sarcasm rolled into one.
