Hornblower displays the life of a sailor in 1700's
I have enjoyed a ratio or lower ever since it was conceived on A&E history Channel because of the accuracy both of the characters and equipment you in a movie. Her ratio shows the inner strength that it takes to be a midshipman through Capt. of the British Navy. I am a historian and a specialty is the American Revolution, Constitution, and the different founders of those days when liberty we sought. The different classes of ships that were shown, what the weaponry was like during this time in history. The characters were really well played, from the officers and sailors who served aboard ship and old civilians who lived in the particular areas were the series brought this show into reality. This series almost coincides with the Revolutionary war. In one episode there were an American ... I very much recommend this movie for any history buffs that enjoys sailing, survival, and war during these times. Times which were, shortly after the American Revolution of two Napoleon and the French Revolution. I just wished they were more episodes of Horatio Hornblower.

Hornblower rocks DVD!
The acting (especially Ioan Gruffudd) is outstanding. The sets are superb and the ships are fabulous! The stories of Horatio Hornblower are already great tales of the sea, but this series brings it to home theaters in a way that leaves no doubt that it is a tour de force. The only thing I can say about disliking about it is the fact that we don't continue to follow Mr. Hornblower's career up through the admiralty. According to a later interview with Ioan, there won't be any more of these made because they cost to much to produce. I had rented the series several times and finally broke down an bought the DVD set. Now it is in my collection forever. My one piece of advice is that if you buy a set make sure it has all EIGHT of the DVDs. There are partial sets out there that don't have them ... The acting (especially Ioan Gruffudd) is outstanding. Honor and glory in the British Navy
This series deserves ten stars. Even my wife loves it. Everyone who has borrowed the set has bought their own copies. We sat up one night and watched it all. . . 13 hours! Horatio is a young lad of honor and integrity who manages to retain his modesty. We watch as he progresses from a lowly Midshipman to decorated Admiral in a career spanning 30 plus years. He defeats adversity, grasps opportunity, and alway emerges triumphant. Follows the books very closely.This series deserves ten stars. Even my wife loves it.
