Product Information

"Comes up bright and new every time I read it . . . it will continue to charm and delight for a very long time yet." --Phillip Pullman, New York Times bestselling author of His Dark Materials With almost 5 million copies sold in the 60 years since it was published, generations of readers have journeyed with Milo to the Lands Beyond in this beloved classic. Enriched by Jules Feiffer's splendid illustrations, the wit, wisdom, and wordplay of Norton Juster's offbeat fantasy are as beguiling as ever. For Milo, everything's a bore. When a tollbooth mysteriously appears in his room, he drives through only because he's got nothing better to do. But on the other side, things seem different. Milo visits the Island of Conclusions (you get there by jumping), learns about time from a ticking watchdog named Tock, and even embarks on a quest to rescue Rhyme and Reason. Somewhere along the way, Milo realizes something astonishing. Life is far from dull. In fact, it's exciting beyond his wildest dreams!

  • Really enjoyed this book!

Love it! Read it twice in a week. Preparing to read it to my grands & use it to teach them about our English language & clever writing as on wants to be a writer. Book was in great shape with dust cover & plastic cover. Our family enjoys reading & especially real books we can hold in our hands...see pic of 3 books we're presently reading.

  • Faintly Macabre and other fanciful creatures...

I read this book for the first time at the age of 12. I fell in love immediately with the characters and intricate wordplay. I am disappointed that this book and Norton Juster isn't as well-known as other children's book authors such as Roald Dahl. The book opens by following a young boy as he lazily trudges through his day. He finds a tollbooth in his room which takes him to a wild fantasy world where ideas and phrases he had or might not have heard before suddenly take on new meaning. Throughout his travels, his way of thinking is changed by the wonderous places and eccentric characters he encounters. I recently purchased a copy and was instantly transformed back to the Land of Rhyme and Reason. This is definitely on my classic list and a must-have for any literary collection.

  • The Phantom Tollbooth

This has been one of my favorite books since I was a child. It never goes out of style. The main character, Milo, is a normal child - one who is always wanting to be someplace other than where he is. It brings Language and Math into a child's world in a most interesting way. I have purchased this book for many children. This purchase was for my first Child, Miles - who we call Milo. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a great journey.
