Product Information

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize--a powerful love story set against the backdrop of the Civil War, from the author of The Secret Chord. From Louisa May Alcott's beloved classic Little Women , Geraldine Brooks has animated the character of the absent father, March, and crafted a story "filled with the ache of love and marriage and with the power of war upon the mind and heart of one unforgettable man" (Sue Monk Kidd). With "pitch-perfect writing" ( USA Today ), Brooks follows March as he leaves behind his family to aid the Union cause in the Civil War. His experiences will utterly change his marriage and challenge his most ardently held beliefs. A lushly written, wholly original tale steeped in the details of another time, March secures Geraldine Brooks's place as a renowned author of historical fiction.

  • Good deal!

Slow start but hard to put down after you figure out they go back in time and then move onto the current time. You could tell the book was older but it was in good condition, no torn or dog eared pages. Some writing in the back of the book but did not interfere with reading the book.

  • March

What a great concept for a story - to pick up on the father's life of his Little Women. Who would have thought? This was a wonderful read. Brings home again how ugly war is - whether the Civil War or todays' coflicts. At the same time how life must go on whether serving or taking care of family at home. Bringing in characters from real life - particularly the John Brown angle. Lots of research went into this and kudos to the author for bringing it to us. I am now reading some of her previous writings.

  • Geraldine Brooks is the best historical fiction writer and this books deserves the Pulitzer.
