    Freedom, Michael W. Smith, MWS,(2000)

    Up to the point of the release for the album This Is Your Time, Smitty has been known to mix in instrumental pieces in most of his work. Surprisingly, none of them have gotten much attention. Some of the more intersting instrumentals would be Ashton, (from Eye 2 i) and the piece dedicated to Rich Mullins, (from Live The Life), just after he died. Being the only fully instrumental disc Smitty's released, he still keeps up with the ability to write extravagently, using as many instruments as possible. Supposively, the album is supposed to follow a script for a Civil War film that hasn't been developed yet. Listen closely and you can depict the moods of the music and begin to ...

    Excellent disc, appeals to many audiences

    I used to be more of a Smith fanatic, but the effects of time and changing taste in music have altered this. However, I still put it in the car as often as any other CD I own because in writing it, Michael W. Smith put together a collection of tunes and orchestrations that, to use a very cliche phrase, speak directly to the heart. They really do, too. Whatever mood you're in, there's a tune on this album that captures it. Pensive, sad, happy, exultant, he's got you covered. Also of note is that this album is distinctly uncharacteristic of Smith's other work; instead of focusing on his usual lyricism to carry the album, he removes lyrics entirely, and with the exception of essentially wordless vocal accompaniment in "The Call," he removes vocals entirely.     Michael W. Smith - Freedom CD

    If you're a Smitty fan this is unlike any of his other music, no words just a pure instumental done with the Ireland orchestra. Only one of the songs actually has an Irish overtone ("Hibernia"). His piano riffs remind me of those of Jim Brickman and George Winston. "The Call" is my favorite, this particular song has the sounds of Kevin Braheni, Enigma and Yanni. Truly versatile. Some of the songs could easily be incorporated into a movie sound track. It's such pretty music and one of those CD's that you can listen to tirelessly, especially if you like Michael W's piano playing (plus being accompanied with an orchestra), it's just way to skippy. There's not to many CD's where you like all the songs, but I like every song on this one.

    Moving

    I bought this as a gift. If you want your spirits lifted by just pure inspirational song this is it. What a wonderful work Mr. Smith put together with this one. I wish he would do more.

    Freedom - Michael W. Smith

    I really like this CD! I heard the samples of it on iTunes and then immediately headed off to Ebay to find a copy. I love this CD primarily because of the memories it brings to me, or the memories I made while listening to it. Michael W. Smith has always done beautiful music, but this CD is mostly instrumental...and sometimes I really prefer instrumental music, because I don't have to listen to words. I can just let the music become a part of me and I can relax.
