À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Famed independent screenwriter and director Robert Rodriguez ( Sin City, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Spy Kids, Machete) discloses all the unique strategies and original techniques he used to make his remarkable debut film El Mariachi on a shoestring budget. This is both one man's remarkable story and an essential guide for anyone who has a celluloid story to tell and the dreams and determination to see it through. Part production diary, part how-to manual, Rodriguez unveils how he was able to make his influential first film on only a $7,000 budget. Also included is the appendix, "The Ten Minute Film Course," a tell-all on how to save thousands of dollars on film school and teach yourself the ropes of film production, directing, and screenwriting. A perfect gift for the aspiring filmmaker.

Reviews
"Robert Rodriguez won critical acclaim and the attention of every studio in Tinseltown with his action-packed debut feature,  El Mariachi --but the question remains: However did he write, direct, shoot, and edit the flick all by his lonesome...and for a paltry $7,000? You'll find that out and more in this straight-talking and highly entertaining memoir-cum-moviemaking primer... you will never view an independently made movie (or $7,000) the same way again."-- Entertainment Weekly "There's no one in the American film business quite like Robert Rodriguez, who plays completely outside the rules imposed by Hollywood studios... Given his success rate, it's clear his method works... Rodriguez has long been a hero to independent filmmakers."-- The Daily Telegraph "A hero to the independent film crowd."-- The New York Times "Only someone very young or ignorant would attempt to make a feature film with $7,000 dollars and no crew. This is because most people know such an endeavor is impossible. Not only did Robert Rodriguez create 'El Mariachi' under those conditions but at 23 he became a Hollywood success overnight... Rebel Without a Crew is the kind of book one would expect from someone who had the courage to break with convention and enough talent for it to pay off almost immediately."-- The Los Angeles Times, "Robert Rodriguez won critical acclaim and the attention of every studio in Tinseltown with his action-packed debut feature, El Mariachi --but the question remains: However did he write, direct, shoot, and edit the flick all by his lonesome...and for a paltry $7,000? • Makes me want to go out and film a movie. Funny.

I can't say that I dislike anything. This book is written out in journal style by the author. What I love is how Robert invites us on a one-on-one adventure through his trials and eventually, his triumphs of having to film and sell El Mariachi. This actually makes me want to go out and make my own film. Through his story, one realizes the sacrifices that one has to make in order to get to where one wants to be. Of course, I'm not too sure that I'd sell my body to science in order to do that, but the point is that one does what one thinks they have to do in order to achieve his or her own goals. The reason why I bought it? Initially, I wanted to get it as a Xmas present for my sister since she is studying film. I got her the book but then, I thought, I should go ahead and buy myself ...

  • Don't pick up this book.

I received this book along with several others that I had purchased on recommendation. Since I was running a bit late and was reading another book at the time I decided to only flip through the intro to get a feel for the book. Before I realized it I had finished the intro and was working on the second chapter. Wound up reading the whole dang thing in one night. So don't read this book if you don't want to be engrossed , inspired to shoot & given practical advice.

  • Perfect for my high school granddaughter who is looking forward to entering the film business.

The book came on time. I didn’t have to search for it in stores. The price was good. It was a nice touch to send a bookmark between the pages. It is the book that was needed,

  • Need moreiachi info

Good read but what I wanted was a hands on how to instructional book. This is more of a bio of El Mariachi.

  • Fun read!

Totally great story. Did not know about Rodriguez. He is a pro. He put his time in. I read much of it outloud to wife and kid during a long road trip.
