This serio-comedy follows an Alabama family as the meet up to support the clan's Uncle Hazel (Jim Varney), arrested on a murder charge and awaiting his trial in jail. when they hear the news about Uncle Hazel, Claude (Billy Bob Thornton), a struggling musician, and his wife Ruby (Laura Dern) return to the small Alabama town in which they grew up, but get caught in a web of family infighting. The strong cast includes, Diane Ladd, Andy Griffith, Kelly Preston, and appearances by Jamie Lee Curtis and Ben Affleck. Interestingly, this film would have been Thornton's first directorial work after his smashing SLING BLADE performance, but was not released until after his third film, ALL THE PRETTY HORSES.

Won't play
This item is of some other format I'm not familiar with, the words disc error comes up on my and other friends players , it simply will not play and yet does look to be in good condition? It says dual layer format on it, if that makes a difference I don't know, very disappointed! Ed

I'm sorry I spend money on this....
I bought this movie for Billy Bob Thornton's track record of writing interesting and insightful movies, as well as its great cast. I made it through thirty minutes or less and turned it off. Although I can appreciate and occasionally love the "inde" type quirky movie, this was very boring and ordinary. Lots of redundant arguing between Billy Bob's character and the character's wife, Laura Dern. It's like taking a peek into an ordinary but over-acted trashy southern couple's life. If I wanted to see that, I'd move back home to Tennessee to my tiny hometown. The dialogue in "Daddy and Them" wasn't enough to keep my attention and I saw no noteworthy comedic efforts. Sadly, I didn't see the movie getting any better and consider ... I bought this movie for Billy Bob Thornton's track record of writing interesting and insightful movies, as well as its great cast. This is my 2nd DVD of this movie
I've been loaning out my original copy of "Daddy & Them" so often that I thought it was time to get a copy for myself that I never loan out. Right now my original has yet to be returned. This is in the top 5 of my favorite movies. That may be because I have a brother who relocated Arkadelphia, Arkansas and loves it there. Me? Not so much. But it is an interesting locale. This movie portrayed the local flavor perfectly. This is Billy Bob Thornton's actual boyhood home setting. My God, they even mentioned Arkadelphia in one of the scenes. It is a bit bawdy, but that doesn't bother me at all. Laura Dern, Billy Bob's ladyfriend at the time is terrific. In fact, the entire cast is great. I was especially taken by the characters enacted by Andy Griffin [playing against type] and John Prine [not ... But it's very much on the mark, and most importantly, it's hilarious. Again, don't miss the special features --- so worth it!

Nasty fun
Billy Bob and Laura Dern are a perfect match. Crazy and a lots of sex stuff. So funny, reminded me of people I knew back in W Va. Glad they are not all like that. I wouldn't let the kids see this one. Lots of redneck funny stuff. You will laugh yourself crazy.

Movie Skipped
It's a great movie and I'm happy to own it now, since it's kinda hard to find. But. I am disappointed that it skipped a little when we played it. I'd probably buy it again, though, given the chance. Thanks.
