    Canon PIXMA iP1600 InkJet Printer

    I decided to buy this printer with the full knowledge that it was "first in breed" of a new line of disposable printers. Canon gives these away as promotions with the purchase of a new computer system or they can be bought separate at the sub $50.00 range. My previous printer the Canon I550 finally had the predicted print head problems and although it had worked well for a number of years I decided to chuck it and try the iP1600 instead. Since the iP1600 uses only 2 ink tanks, as opposed to the 4 tanks used by the I550 I knew the ink was going to be an expensive proposition, upwards of $35.00 retail for both tanks. My plan was, and still is, to just purchase additonal complete iP1600 printers for $20.00 or less (minus shipping) and get around the ink problem that way. So far I have ...

    Nice printer for the money

    Printer set up very easy. You will need a USB cord, as it does not come with one. It does not have a front tray to recieve paper or photos, but you only need a little table room to catch them. Quality of photos and print are very good. As I stated, it's great for a low priced unit. I don't know about ink life, or reliability of printer. Canon has a good reputation. It has got to be better than my last 2 Epsons..they were junk, and I wont buy again. The program for printing and photos is complete and easy to use. I understood that I needed to download an update for vista, But after using the supplied disc,everything worked just fine. Go figure... So far very pleased ...Time will tell the rest of the story...

    Simple printer and cheap

    This printer is very simple and prints excellent quality pages. It is small in size and can fit almost anywhere. It has a one year warranty and Canon does honor their warranty, unlike other companies I have dealt with (specifically HP). Ink seems to last quite a bit, and there are now compatibles made so that makes for cheaper printing. This is a workhorse for those in college or needing it for everyday use. It also prints excellent quality photos. All in all, for the price, can't go wrong.

    CANON pixma ip 1600

    I had had a Canon Pixma IP 1500 which finally died, so when I was buying a new one, I looked at the same line of printers and decided to get the Canon IP 1600. This printer is just a simple home printer that's versatile enough to do normal printing and photos too. I would recommend using genuine Canon ink cartridges, not generic or refilled cartridges. This printer is not especially fast. The cartridges are bigger than the ones on the prior model I had, so hoping they last a lot longer. I paid $30 for a set of genuine Canon cartridges (b&w and color)on Ebay, but think they cost more like $60 in the office supply stores. The cost of ink is an important consideration in purchasing one of these printers. Just one set of cartridges cost as much or more than the printer itself.

    PIXMA great for printing photos.

    I wanted a printer mainly for photos. I read that the Pixma was exceptionally good for this purpose and it seems that this is true. I keep it loaded with photo paper and my regular printer with plain paper. Print quality is very good for photos and the speed is good. Only negative feature I have found is it sometimes does not load paper well and requires a little hand feeding to get the paper started.
