Fabulous Story-Great characters!-Watch this movie!
Fabulous Baker Boys is a great movie due to the fact, that the story is so good and brought to life by exceptional actors. Jeff Bridges is always great but his slightly pessimistic and ragged look at the youngest of two piano playing brothers works well against the controlling and optimistic outlook of his older movie brother(as well as real life). They have been playing piano together for 31 years and the years of lounges and changing times seem to be taking a toll on the Baker Boys so they decide to look for a singer to round off the tunes they play. Enter Michelle Pfeifer after many dismal applicants,she brings a rough edge along with her stunning looks that soon proves to be what the Baker Boys were lacking. Three distinct attitudes leads to squabbles and splits at the foundation. ... Fabulous Baker Boys is a great movie due to the fact, that the story is so good and brought to life by exceptional actors. 2 burned out Brothers Hire a new Singer~ a delight~
PLOT: the "Fabulous Baker Boys" flounder in the same old dives hire a new singer~ Susie Diamond~ Michelle Pfeifer is excellent~~ BILLED as the"Fabulous Baker Boys" for 31 years the burn out brothers (Beau and Jeff)Bridges now are being turned away from dives~ Beu is fun as the anal manager of the duo Frank~ and Jeff is the brooding chain smoking Jack~ the fun part is the LOUSY auditions~ for a new singer~ (excellent for the few minutes on the Screen is Jennifer Tilly as "Blanche" hilarious~ but they eventually chooose MOUTHY Susie Diamond who has as much "attitude" but she can sing~ from the smokey voice to the sexy moves she is excellent~ MICHELLE PFEIFER received an Oscar Nomination ~ womanizer Jack meets his match in Susie~ but the brothers break up the act~ and Susie movies on~ ... The Fabulous Baker Boys made me convinced these two actors were really performing pianists!
This was a great period piece of the "piano bar era." Beau and Jeff Bridges portrayed a believable relationship between brothers with Michelle Pfeiffer delivering a great role of the "possible romance" between non-committals.

Fabulous Indeed!
This is probably one of my top three music oriented films of all time, the other two being "This is Spinal Tap" and "That Thing You Do!". What all three of these films have in common is a real honest take on the genre that their fictitious story has been based upon - even the over-the-top Spinal Tap exudes sincerity amidst the hilarious spoofing. Getting back to the Baker Boys, the Bridges Brothers are so perfect as the Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison of lounge entertainment, both on and off the stage. Nobody could have embodied these roles better. Nobody! And though it's really Dave Grusin playing the piano, Jeff and Beau have thankfully embodied the performances, and you have to look carefully to not believe it's them playing. I really appreciated that (I'm a musician), along with how ... The singing of "Makin' Whoopee" on top of the piano will always be the signature of this movie, but it's so much more. The dynamic between brothers, and life as a working musician, not a rock star, but a real world working musician is the gold inside this movie. Neither a happy nor tragic ending, just a real one.

This is a great movie and the DVD was good except for having trouble tracking during the scene when Michelle is singing on the piano.
