Alright boys and girls here it is HST '72 give it a read and tell me that it is still not a valid read. HST is one of the most overlooked and misunderstood writers of the late 20th century. Thompson sets the tempo it is up to the reader to keep up the pace. Love him or hate him I don't care, just read him, you'll find in the end he's alot like that cool non conformist uncle you could always talk guns, sports, cars, politics and women with. You could have a beer and listen to ZZ Top hanging out with HST and the whole time he would be recording and transcribing your conversation with him you'd live forever in the pages of his book. If you have not read him read him, if you've read him them read him again. "Open up the throttle take it up to 100mph around the turns in the dark!" Before there ... 40 years have passed since the release of this book, but time only enhances the razor-sharp political instincts Hunter was blessed with. An admitted politics junkie, he sets out for Washington "to find out if they (politicians) are all swine." As many may already know, this book is more like a campaign journal than a straight analytical novel. But that's where Hunter shines brightest. Running on Wild Turkey, speed, and other essentials, he frenetically churns out page after page of on-the-spot observations with the focused eye of a man possessed. He is frequently late for or misses deadlines, which forces him to insert verbatim transcripts and word-for-word interviews (most notably the intimate sit-down with McGovern), but in true Gonzo style, these are among the many things that make ... 40 years have passed since the release of this book, but time only enhances the razor-sharp political instincts Hunter was blessed with. So, if you love politics, you'll enjoy the portrayal of everything from the primaries to the polls. And if you hate politics, all the better, because this book illuminates the American presidential campaign process for what it truly is: a cynical, nut-cutting, ball-busting nightmare.

A truthful insite into Nixon, mixed with drug induced fantasies. Thompson saw the real Nixon befor anyone else and had the nerve to shout it. A serious, sad, frightning, and funny look into the 1972 election campaign. HST's book takes you for a tour that is constantly slipping from real reality to his reality. It will keep you on your toes trying to spot where the changes take place. It , like many of his others, is a book you will enjoy reading again and again.A truthful insite into Nixon, mixed with drug induced fantasies. Great Author Great Book!!!
Hunter S Thompson is my partners favorite author so I have buying numerous books of his for him to read. He enjoys reading Thompsons books so much because you can actally hear Hunter talking while your reading his books, his way of writing is so distinct. After seeing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas you will understand!!
