When Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murrary) and his Columbia University colleagues (Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson) are kicked out of their prestigious academic posts, they start a private practice as professional ghost-catchers. Although the three parascientists are idle for awhile, their television advertisements finally pay off when beautiful Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) contracts them. It seems her apartment has become the entryway for ghastly ghosts and goofy ghouls hellbent on terrorizing New York City. Soon they're going to her rescue, trying to rid the city of the slimy creatures. GHOSTBUSTERS hit US screens in June of 1984 and went on to become one of the most successful comedy films of all time, spawning a sequel and a popular animated series.

Perfect comedy perfect depiction of 1980s
Ghostbusters is comedy and as funny as it gets. The movie never misses a chance to poke fun at things and it has plenty of sight-gags that any native New Yorker will appreciate. Set in 1984, New York City has an infestation of ghosts and it is left up to three con-artists who don the respectable cloak of being professors at Columbia University to rid the Big Apple of its ghosts. Led by Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), they set up their own business and they call themselves the Ghostbusters. This movie's pitch is perfect. Where else but New York City would suffer from a ghost infestation? And the scene of a ghost at the wheel of a New York taxi plowing into garbage is a sight-gag that any native New York resident would appreciate. The Ghostbusters become celebrities, but they have their ... Ghostbusters is comedy and as funny as it gets. It turns out that ghosts from a long-gone cult are haunting New York and are poised to take over the city, with the appearance of the Stay Puft Marshmallow. Con-artists or not, it is up to the Ghostbusters to save New York City from this other-world invasion. In addition to being a hilarious and timeless comedy, Ghostbusters depicts life in the 1980s in a way that few other movies do. No other movie comes close to depicting the decor and fashion trends of 1984. For anyone who wants a perfect depiction of life in the 1980s, they only need watch Ghostbusters. In short, Ghostbusters is a five-star comedy and a great time capsule of the 1980s.

Classic
This is probably one of the most entertaining classics I have ever laid my hands on Dan and Bill are AWESOME, why I can watch this classic every day and not get tired of the unbelievably funny scenes that these guys get into almost constantly. If you like Comedy you owe it to yourself to watch this movie. Love it.

Original Ghostbusters CD was in great condition showed up before expected... my kids don't even know there was the original...now i can share this great 80's movie with them..

A classic without a genre
Is it a horror/comedy or a comedy/horror? What's the difference when you can't help laughing again and again? Rick Moranis, as usual, is hilarious with his nervous hounddog routine towards sexy Sigourney (she never looked better!), cost-effective accounting party dialogue and finally as a possessed subject donned with inverted collander and entrapments probed by Egon at the team's headquarters. Each replay reaps another subtle bit of suppressed dialogue from Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd & Harold Ramis. Considering this movie was released just before the wave of new generation CG hit, the special effects were very cleverly implemented. Take particular note to the horrifying example of symmetrical bookstacking in the NY library!!! All-in-all, a true classic of a genre that defies ... Is it a horror/comedy or a comedy/horror?
