Fun musical that reinforces the study of Mark Twain's stories!
I already had the VHS version of Tom Sawyer and ordered the DVD version of it to project on the bigger screen. It is amazing to notice the details that one sees in this DVD version that are missed when seen in the VHS version on a television screen! As a music teacher, I show one musical to students every year, and this is a huge hit with my fourth graders. All students love this, especially boys! I chose Tom Sawyer because fourth graders study Missouri history and Mark Twain. I have seen this movie version of the musical approximately 40 times and never get tired of seeing it and seeing the students' fascinated reactions to this musical. For school, I cover up the few seconds of the scene of Tom and Huckleberry swimming in the nude (showing their behinds in the river), talk about ... Other than those events that are part of Mark Twain's stories, this is a great way to show a musical when you cannot see a live production during school hours. It reinforces the students' study of Mark Twain in their classes and makes his stories "come alive." Many students ask to see it again, both in the same school year and in the following year.

Great musical AND Mark Twain!!
I had gotten this one from our local library rentals. The grandkids loved it!! Watched it so much they could sing the songs (without the dvd). So I was very happy when I found this on EBay! I remember seeing this (let's just say) when I was younger. And my grandkids (6-11) enjoyed it as much as I did. Guess classics never go out of style.

A gem!
I was so excited to find this gem that took me back to my childhood! Adorable little Johnny Whitaker along with Jeff East and Jodie Foster portray the characters of a Mark Twain classic. Great entertainment!

A wonderful family classic!
I loved this movie when I was a kid. Recently my neighbor and I were talking about our children and he compared my son to the "adventurer" Tom Saywer. I knew had to get this movie again! When my boys watched it for the first time, and I re-lived it, it was a fun experience for all of us. The movie is available for an excellent price on DVD, and it's truly a classic family film.
