As lovely as ever, but what did the remastering do?
Joni Mitchell's For the Roses album has long been a favorite of mine. When I saw it had been "remastered," I just had to have it. I haven't listened to it in a few years, but I have to say that I can not tell where it's been remastered. There was no AHA moment or any big wow (like when you get HDtv and compare it to the old one.) If you already have the album, I think you're fine. Don't waste your money on the remastered version. If you're needing to replace one, might as well buy it, on the off chance that it's actually made a difference.Joni Mitchell's For the Roses album has long been a favorite of mine. Gobsmacking! (Additional Superlatives Dependent on Playback Equipment)
I ordered three of these Joni HDCDs (this, along with Hejira and Hissing), and they are amazing (within reason). One can hear subtle nuances of parts in the mix that are unnoticeable in the standard CD format. The expanded soundscape is fascinating, and--in certain ways--how you always dreamed these albums should and could sound. Listening to it on a blaster or standard car stereo is, at times, disconcerting--most of these types of players don't have enough equalization or clean power to accommodate the new, sheer presence of some parts (Joni's lead vocal, for instance--especially when she pushes it hard, and moves from mid-range to high). These moments happen from time to time, and although they are not pleasant, they do not render the listening experience intolerable. However, ... I ordered three of these Joni HDCDs (this, along with Hejira and Hissing), and they are amazing (within reason). Love it.
Had it as an LP in a previous life, heard s cut on the radio recently n realized what an amazing work it was ( to me). Haven't stopped listening to it since got. So thankful for it's excellent quality. It still plays good.
