great book, great insipiration and wisdom
i loved this book. being a gay youth, and a basketball fan, this book is very motivational. John Amaechi is a positive role model who's helping out gay awarness and acceptance. The book is great. He goes in depth about his life, from childhood to adulthood, through his basketball career, his struggles in life and his sexuality. He is an amazing man who's overcomed a lot, and his message is very inspirational and moving. I highly recomend purchasing and reading this book. I don't usually read much at all, but I had to go pick up this book and finished it in less than a week while I was sick. Great book , especially for those coming to terms.
I have always been a huge basketball fan, and living near Orlando , I was familiar with John Amaechi, from his days with the Orlando Magic. About a week before I bought this book, my closest family member informed me that they were gay. Although I never had a problem with homosexuals, it is a little different when it is a family member, and I needed help understanding certain things. This book really helped me out, Of course, I would love this family member the same with or without the book, but it made UNDERSTANDING homosexuality a little easier. Aside from that, the book is humorous, and can be read in just a few sit downs. I bought this book because it was recommended by a person who posted about it on Sports Illustrated.com. The book is a fun read; John Amaechi writes as if he were sitting in the room talking to you. I read this book quickly because it was just so interesting! It's a story about his rise to the NBA as a British man. He doesn't use a lot of sports jargon, so he is able to include all readers. A wonderful story about a wonderful man, written in a humble manner.Very encouraging and inspiring.I bought this book because it was recommended by a person who posted about it on Sports Illustrated.com.
