À propos de ce produit

Product Information

Into the Teeth of the Tiger provides a vivid, pilot's-eye view of one of the most extended projections of American air power in World War II Asia. Lopez chronicles every aspect of fighter combat in that theater: harrowing aerial battles, interludes of boredom and inactivity, instances of courage and cowardice. Describing different pilots' roles in each type of mission, the operation of the P-40, and the use of various weapons, he tells how he and his fellow pilots faced not only constant danger but also the munitions shortages, poor food, and rat-infested barracks of a remote sector of the war. The author also offers keen observations of wartime China, from the brutalities of the Japanese occupation to the conflict between Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalists and the Communist movement. This edition of Lopez's acclaimed account features new photographs, most of which have never before been published. Relating how the 23rd Fighter Group continued to win battles even as the Japanese gained ground, Into the Teeth of the Tiger is the humorous and insightful memoir of an ace pilot caught in the paradox of victory in retreat.

  • Book: Into the Teeth of the Tiger ,author, Don Lopez

Into the "Teeth of the Tiger", is a revised addition of his first 1986 book in paperback. This new edition has a lot more in it,plus wonderful photos. It is a great story of the last years 1943-44 of the famous "Flying Tigers" of W11 fame. This book was printed by the Smithsonian Institution Press , Washington/London, 1997 as part of it's History of Aviation Series. If you want to know more about the 14th Air Force in the China Burma theater, with Lopez's humorous narrative this is the book for you. Reading it I felt I was in the cockpit of Lopez's shark painted P-40N diving on some unlucky Zero with my hand on the stick and thumb on the fire button. Parts of the story are sad about the loss of so many young airman. Heroes all. The good news is the authors humor which is delightful and ...

  • Flying Tigers

I bought this book because of an interest in WW II history, particularly the air war. This is a clearly written documentary of life in the Chinese theater. No cliches, just the story of a young man who loved to fly and wound up in China.
