Great Audio Interface for Rocksmith 2014 (PC)
I bought a Line 6 Tone Port UX1 off Ebay to use with Rocksmith 2014 Remasted. Traditionally you have to use the Realtone cable. With a patch called RS_ASIO you can use an audio interface instead of the realtone cable. This line 6 UX1 works perfect with Rocksmith / RS_ASIO. As an added bonus, I downloaded the Line 6 Gearbox & Pod Farm for free. Both of these model amps, cabinets, and effects to get some great guitar tones without any pedals.I bought a Line 6 Tone Port UX1 off Ebay to use with Rocksmith 2014 Remasted. Good sound but leaves more to be desired
bought it used for about 60 bucks around may 2010. It works well as a practice interface. I can't get the sound to come out of my speakers with windows vista and hp dv9700 laptop. I think the issue is with my computer. I made a work around by routing the line out from the back of the unit to one of my amps. That would give me some sound. The pod farm program includes a lot of amp and effect models. There are many presets but some of them would call for models that are not supported by the program. Why the program won't hide those from view is beyond me, it's quite disappointing to see a certain preset that I wanted to try out just to be told that I either have to pay more for a license or use a different one. UX1 is a recording interface and not a guitar amp pedal
I also own Amplitude 3 and Guitar Rig4 and the L6 blows both away(Sound modeling-wise). Guitar Rig is close, but no Cigar. Amp3 needs to go back to R&D. Nevertheless,The first UX1 I got was malfunctioning badly, but there were no return hassles and I am so glad I got another and ot let that stop me from getting another. The one I use now is really awesome. NOTE!!!: A lot of the reviews I've read about this unit seems to be based on people who don't seem to really know how to use it. It is an interface and it gives excellent guitar tracks on my Sonar. I have very awesome (real)amp set ups, but the L6 gets the same sounds with more consistence and less hassle. However, don't use the presets - go in to the basic amp modes and create your own. The POD farm 2.0 saves us recording freaks the ... The POD farm 2.0 saves us recording freaks the hassle of running it thru a mic pre or such plugin, because POD 2.0 has put there mic pres in line with the guitar -(this can be a vast improvement in your guitar sound quality. In conclusion the only thing I don't like about it is the sound card it comes with. It's killer for a guitar sound, but monitoring your overall mix thru the speaker jacks of the L6 are kind of crappy. I take and run my L6 into my computer's sound card(Realtek) by going from the headphone out(of the L6) into the computer(line in) and monitor it thru my computer's sound card(with my monitors coming from the line out/headphone jack. This is a totally different sound(like the difference between cheap speaker and quality ones). I also recommend a tube preamp to plug your guitar into and then run into the UX1. Big difference(can't beat real tubes). I've got a Berhringer Mic 200 with a Gold Lion 12ax7. Awesome on anything that touches it. I literally get as good of a recorded sound on my Sonar w/ the L6 that I get with my real Fender and Marshall. You've just got to know tone and what truly makes it. L6 has the best amp modeling out there!!! Some older computers may have issues, but it runs fine on both Win 7 and Vista. Use the direct moitoring for recording(the only latency advantage is if you are recording along side a sequencer of some kind. But, on playback you may want to monitor it thru your computers sound card. The difference is like listening to your overall mix thru Celestions vs. JBL's. The UX1 is more midrangy and not as pristine for playback monitoring. This advice is for home set ups - big timers run monitors in every possible routing they can plug. If mine fried out or got stolen, I would buy another immediately!!!! However, these are for RECORDING!!! They are NOT an effects pedal. These are also good for Vocals(w/an XLR input). I've compared the L6 mic pres to both URS and Waves and they are very good. Not as good as the URS or Waves - but, extremely close to the URS. For the Home Recording enthusiast on a tight budget, it can kill 3 or 4 birds with one stone! God bless and Rock On!!!

Ease of Use: The TonePort UX1 is probably the cheapest, most economically efficient way to practice at home, try new sounds, and record your riffs. For 100 dollars it is the best deal I have ever made. Currently I am saving up for a tube amp, but they are very expensive (hence the good tone) and so for now I am practicing through this. I have been playing piano for 6 years and record a lot with my synth and mac. My guitar experience is not very seasoned, only 2 years, but I play a ton and am very dedicated. This effects modular/recording device has let me play awesome leads and studio-quality backups for my previously recorded songs. At first when I was online I was amazed that all those effects and tones could be purchased for such a great deal. When I excitedly opened the package they ... There were easy to follow pictures and directions that anyone can easily understand and not get confused. I had set it up exactly as the manual had said with everything done in the right order too. Through all my excitement and the easy instructions I had thought Line 6 would do everything for me. I was wrong, there is one thing that you should know. You MUST hook up external monitors or speakers to either the phones out put or stereo jacks, it will not play through your computer speakers! So my excitement died down and even though it was something stupid I assumed, other people might do the same. The issue with that is you must now go out and buy good monitors or hook up headphones. Unless you have good quality headphones it diminishes the tonal quality greatly, I had to hook it up to my old practice amp, which is not good, therefore making the sound on this lower than it should be. Line 6 is very, very, very good at customer satisfaction and help. If you have any problems and call them they will answer politely and tell you what you need. If you sign up for the online newsletter (which you should) they give you many discounts on other Line 6 items and upgrades. They patch the Gearbox software frequently and come out with new tones. // 9 Sound: As I said before I have to play this through my old practice amp which makes it sound thin and sterile, though if you have monitors in your studio already or good headphones it is more than satisfactory. My guitar is a Jackson SLSMG Soloist with Mark Tremonti pickups. Gearbox is an amazing software program that has distortion and fuzz pedals, delays, chorus, phaser, reverb and about 25 amp heads. The cabinets are ok, I use it almost as an equalization, some are more bass heavy others small and thin. The gate that comes with it is great because if you add the distortion pedal with gain already from the amp, you WIll get feedback and static/tons of extra noise. But, not only does gearbox have a guitar hum eliminator (which helps alot! ) it has a gate which though it steals from your tone, helps with the noisiness. The effects are probably the best feature because the delay, chorus, reverb, etc are the SAME EXACT tones that are on the POD xt Live and other higher Line 6 modulars. I like the delay the best, it sounds exactly like (because it is, more or less) the delay on the Line 6 echo farm pedals. // 9 Reliability & Durability: Unfortunately you have to be plugged into your computer, so unless you have a laptop, you can not gig with it or practice with a band, or anything but record at home and practice by yourself. Great Interface
Great for professional sounding recordings. Anyone who gives a bad review of this interface is stupid and does not know how to use it correctly. Which seems crazy because it is VERY easy to use. A baby could put out records for Megadeth with this thing. Well not that easy but you get the point I'm sure. VERY good Interface. VERY good price.
