From the best-selling novel by Peter Benchley, Steven Spielberg directed this thrill ride of terror. During the height of beach season, the Massachusetts resort town of Amity Island is terrorized one summer by surprise attacks from a great white shark. Three unlikely partners team up to hunt down the rogue and destroy it: the new chief of police from New York (Roy Scheider), a young university-educated oceanographer (Richard Dreyfuss), and a crusty old-time fisherman (Robert Shaw). The film shoot was notoriously difficult for the young Spielberg, who had directed only one feature film before JAWS. The mechanical shark seldom operated correctly, and Spielberg was frequently forced to create the idea of terror without actually showing the shark. However, after the film premiered it went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time--surpassing THE GODFATHER and becoming the first film to gross more than a hundred million dollars. Composer John Williams created the score to JAWS, which has since become a well-known theme of impending doom. Ron and Valerie Taylor were responsible for filming live sharks in Australia; their sequences were later mixed with footage of the mechanical shark.

    ws is 30 years old. This scary blockbuster film is celebrating it's 30th anniversary with a special 2 DVD set and 60-Page Commemorative Photo Journal. It is an excellent DVD set for the fan of the scary film from Steven Spielberg. One DVD features the film, in Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio and includes the Original Theatrical Mono Audio Track. It also includes deleted scenes and outtakes and from the set: A never-before -available interview with Director Steven Spielberg. The second DVD features the making of JAWS, a two hour documentary featuring interviews with Steven Spielberg, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider. It also includes JAWS Archives: Production photos, storyboards, marketing JAWS adn the JAWS phenomenon. The real fun of this new release set if the Limited Edition 60 Page ...

    Great bargain on regular DVD

    I first saw Jaws when it came out in theaters back in the 1970's. I have since seen a "making of" type program on one of the cable TV channels. There were a great many problems with the shark not working as planned. By chance, these problems actually led to the movie becoming a blockbuster. That piqued a curiosity in me to see the film again. However, I could not find it on Netflix or any other pay-per-view movie channel just to see it once. Besides, I don't like commercials breaking up a story line. So, the next best thing was purchasing the DVD. Some of those are not inexpensive either, but the seller I bought it from had the best deal. Great movie, but not worth spending $$$ on Blue Ray. Get it in regular DVD if you just want to see it a couple of times. It's still scary!

    Two disks, widescreen and plenty of extras. A classic at its best.

    First off, its "Jaws", an American classic that scared millions. For those who have never read the novel, beware- the novel has little in common with the movie. The novel contains not only the horror of the shark, but also sex, betrayal and just the right amount of lunacy. This movie was made long before the advent of the DVD and even VHS. That being said, the polymorphic widescreen and video extras on this two disk set is a must have for any horror buff.

    Another Release

    Now I know that you are thinking that this is just another release of JAWS, which has how many versions of it out. Well, it is another version, but it has a few extras. Now I have every release of this movie, including on VHS. I wanted this do bad. The booklet is a reshash of what is in the documentary, and the documentary is just longer than what was on the 25th Anniversary release. Who cares? It is another release of JAWS. BTW just so you know, this is my favorite movie of all times so they could change a colour on the packaging and I would buy it. So all I can tell you, is that if you are the one person left on earth that has not seen the movie, this will catch you up on the last 30 years.
