This discrete, compact detector is ready to go right out of the box as it receives power from your vehicle's auto accessory power/cigarette lighter outlet. The Passport is a complete solution, being able to detect radar on the X, K, and Ka-bands as well as notification of upcoming laser equipment. The inclusion of detection of instant-on and POP, or extremely short burst, modes means lightning-fast response time, giving you extra time to check and, if necessary, regulate your speed. The 8500 X50 also boasts impressive search range, with its sensors detecting and broadcasting an alert of Ka-band equipment from up to a mile away. This gives you more than ample time to react to scanning of targets far ahead of you on the road.An early adopter of TSR software, the Escort Passport 8500 makes use of Traffic Signal Radar to analyze and not report on the low-power radar units used by traffic signals for traffic control, doing away with many false alarms when used in urban settings. The Passport 8500 does not yet include onboard GPS, limiting detection of red-light and other camera alerts. Its superiority at laser and triple-band radar detection makes it a favorite product year after year among laser and triple-band detectors thanks to its simplicity, reliability, and features. Utilizing its 280-LED bar graph display for clear visual notification of signal strength, the 8500 X50 detector also provides audio cues with distinct tones that differentiate between each band of radar. Since the information passed by audio warnings can eventually get annoying and repetitive, the Escort X50 receiver also incorporates an AutoMute mode, which slowly brings the alert's volume down, keeping drivers informed of upcoming potential hazards with minimal intrusion. For more discreet driving at night, users can set the device to Dark Mode where the display turns LED notifications off. You can still receive visual alerts on the SmartCord accessory as directly on the lighter plug are a power cord that has a power on/off button, an alert lamp that warns of upcoming signals, and a mute button. Lastly, this device is also compatible with Escort's ESCORT Live Radar mobile app, which features regularly updated speed trap information, traffic-enforcement and photo camera locations, automatic reminders of previously noted threats, and the ability to share new threats discovered by your detector via the Escort Live network.

Exceeds all my expections for value, performance and price!!!
I purchased my Escort Passport 8500 X50 Black used and I am very happy with it. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that it must be returned to Escort for any software updates at a reasonable fee. It is the same or very similar to the 9500Xi with the exception it doesn't have GPS and is not software upgradeable via an internet connection. Very, very few false alerts. Easy to operate right out of the box or you can customize it to fit your needs. I will never buy another brand of detector again except for Escort. Radar Roy doesn't lie about this detector. Not an exact match for the Escort piece
Tooth wouldn't latch onto the cutouts on this piece of metal. Seller is great! Got it here quickly, but quality wise, was a little disappointed. Punched holes in metal don't line up exactly with my escort passport detector. It fell off my mirror mount and was dangling by the hardwire cable. I have one of my daughters' hair elastiics holding my detector onto the mount at this point. I'm just like whatever, don't even care. Tooth wouldn't latch onto the cutouts on this piece of metal. Radar/ Laser Detectors
This radar laser detector works great. If a patrol car is shooting radar, usually you can pick it up from about 2 miles(max). However if the officer is shooting instant on radar then you are probably out of luck because you won't pick up the radar until he flips the switch. This is almost the same concept as the laser detector. The problem is when you are hit with a laser gun, the office has clocked you instantly, giving you no time to try and slow down (if you are speeding). This means you need laser jammers. Advice? When traveling, don't be in a hurry to be the one out in front, the patrol car clocks the first car and pulls that one over, even if there are 10 other cars speeding. Most importantly, DON'T SPEED. ***EXAMPLE*** If you are going on a trip that is ... This radar laser detector works great. And most importantly, lose the 12 minutes you wanted to save by getting pulled over. a. take the original 12 minutes you should spend driving safely b. spend 6 hours in a boring class and pay $200 c. let someone else drive :)

awesome product..dont waste your money buying the next upgrade.
After getting a ticket from my camping trip, I decided to buy a radar detector. I live in Chicago and to go camping, I have to trek off and in certain counties in Illinois are infamous for speed traps. I did some research and decided to not pay the extra few hundred bucks just so I could see the info in blue. I'm glad I made the decision. The radar detector works excellently. The radar is sensitive and has saved me on my last trip. The seller sent me the radar in a prompt manner. The only thing that prevents me from making the purchase perfect is that the radar although was in a case, was not in its original packing and even worse..the suction cup that supposed to hold the radar to the window sucks. I had to use velcro and just place it on top of the dash. Other than ... After getting a ticket from my camping trip, I decided to buy a radar detector. With my budget and needs I got myself this 8500 X50 Black with Red display. I was eager to test it out and sure enough I have. The first thing you see out of the box is a compact well built and well thought out design not to mention the sleekness. Mounting on the windshield is easy and it stays level with minimal vibrations even on a rough road surface. The device is user friendly and packs all the basic features you will ever need from a detector. The performance is impressive too with City, Highway and Auto sensitivity settings on the go.
