Lay down professional audio tracks with little more than your home computer. The M-Audio Fast Track C400 digital recording interface helps you get great sound in any studio setting. Whether you work in a studio space outfitted with a full version of Avid Pro Tools, multiple microphones and mixers, or you record on a laptop in your basement, this hardware device produces clear, quality audio. A digital audio interface is an important device for any digital recording project. It covers analog sound to digital formats, which is essential for recording and mixing tracks on a computer. M-Audio produces a variety of interfaces, including the C600, M-Track, Mobilepre, and the M-Track Eight. M-Audio Fast Track C400 is a good multipurpose device that works in a variety of studio types. It includes four inputs, letting you connect up to four different instruments in a single take. Connect microphones, guitars, and bass guitars to the interface. A built-in digital signal processor (DSP) lets you add delay, reverb, and other effects to your tracks as you record them and feeds these effects through your headphones. The device supplies phantom power, so you are able to use condenser microphones for your vocal tracks. This M-Audio interface also includes six output options, which lets you connect it to headphones, studio monitors, mixers, hardware effects processors, and other output devices. This equipment includes an S/PDIF I/O option, which sends two channels to an external converter for further optimization. The C400 connects to your computer with a USB cord, which makes it easy to set up. The M-Audio Fast Track C400 digital recording interface is compatible with any digital audio workstation (DAW) software. It comes with Pro Tools SE included in the bundle, which is a light version of the Avid Pro Tools software that many professional studios use. Avid Pro Tools SE lets you record tracks, add virtual MIDI instruments to your projects, and add effects to your audio. It lets you mix as many as 16 instrument and 8 MIDI tracks in a project and includes features, such as score editing. It also offers a variety of audio effects and a great selection of loops to add to your project. The C400 is easy to install, connect, and use. Before getting started, check to make sure the drivers are properly installed. You may have to install these manually with older operating systems, but the drivers may automatically install when you plug in the device if you use a newer version of Mac OS or Windows. To connect the device, plug a USB cord into the USB ports on the device and your computer. Open the recording software of your choice, open a new project, and select the interface as the input and output device for your tracks. Add tracks, arm them to record, and lay down your tracks. Record tracks, adjust the settings on the interface, and re-record them as you see fit to create great mixes.     Unique feature: DAC

    The M-Audio Fast Track Pro is a home/mobile recording interface that is designed for musicians or anyone who has a need to record themself, but since I do not play music or make podcasts, I acquired it in order to take advantage of one of its other unique features: as an inexpensive digital-analog converter (DAC). If you've owned a CD player or have an iPod dock, you already have some familiarity with DACs; they basically transfer the digitized music on a CD into a form that can be amplified and played through standard speakers. Similarly, the Fast Track Pro enabled me to play the music in my iTunes through my home stereo system. It has a USB input that allows it to be used as an outboard DAC, so I connected it to my computer and "Voila!", no more tinny sounding music on tiny computer ...

    Basic level of external audio interfaces - robust unit for a small fee!

    M-Audio Fast Track Pro Digital Recording Interface is a combination of reliability and low price. This is another unit of production of M-Audio features small size, the quality of the analog-digital process, the presence of two microphone inputs. Are supported by phantom power. The interface has its own software. The device connects to the connector USB. The main advantage of the device, in my opinion, is ergonomic to use. This is a very good option for outbound DJ or for home work a normal user who appreciates quality external sound card. Why you bought it? - because I trust M-Audio as a manufacturer of audio devices What you like most about it? - ergonomics of use What you dislike about it? - certainly it is a quality device for small money, but for professionals in the field of sound ...

    Easy to use with great sound quality. Excellent value!

    I'm using the fast track pro with Garageband '11. It is very easy to setup and the software automatically recognizes it. So far I have only recorded with an electric guitar; haven't tried two track recording, microphone or the midi channel. I had to use the RCA outputs to get a good signal to my stereo system for monitor. Don't worry about the green signal light when playing electric guitar, it flickers but you will know by the monitor whether your connections and settings are correct. I would recommend this for any novice who wants a quick, easy-to-use interface. Recording quality is great if you use good cables. The usb seems to handle two way traffic well and there is almost no delay in the monitor feedback which helps you stay in time. I have not used any comparable devices, ...

    A solid 2-channel audio interface that offers lots of options

    I bought this unit as part of a package with ProTools MP9 in order to upgrade my home studio. The unit seems to be a good solid unit that has several nice features over the similar M-Audio Pre. The one specific problem I've had with it so far is that both the M-Audio Fast Track and the accompanying ProTools MP9 claim they record at 96 khz, but the most I've been able to adjust them to is 48 khz. So the upgrade I'd hoped for has been a slight one. Still, for the price I guess that wasn't bad. ProTools MP9 comes with a User's Guide that's 1278 pages long, so the learning curve on that software is pretty steep, but I feel like the M-Audio Fast Track itself is truly pretty simple and straight forward, and it seems to do what it's supposed to.

    M-Audio Fast Track Pro

    I bought this product because I had been wanting to make better recordings on my computer and my sound card just wasn't cutting it. My friend said I needed a pre-amp so I decided on this one because of the relatively low price and it looked easy to use.Well at first I was very confused with this product, I had to go download a driver to make it work with Vista and then it took me a little while and some interenet surfing to get it up and running but once I did I was as happy as could be. Having to go download drivers for newer operating systems was a bit of a hassle but it was more than worth it. M-Audio's website was easy to use and told you exactly which driver you needed. They installed quickly and this thing records wonderfully. It comes with a USB cable and it will run off of that so ...
