Rockstar Games' cornerstone Grand Theft Auto series returns for a third run through the 128-bit generation, with this violent, mature-themed third-person shooter and mission-based driving game. Set in the early-'90s gang culture of "San Andreas," a fictional U.S. region modeled after California, the adventure plays out across the entire virtual state, with action centered in its three main cities: Los Santos (based on Los Angeles), San Fiero (San Francisco), and Las Venturas (Las Vegas). Like its immediate predecessor, Vice City, San Andreas strives to provide a wide, deep foundation for its free-form criminal gameplay by setting the story in a slightly exaggerated representation of a familiar (if not glorified) American subculture. As Vice City seemed inspired by Miami Vice, and the pastel-decked, "me generation" ideals of the early '80s, San Andreas is set in a time and place suggested by films like Boyz N the Hood, Menace II Society, or Colors, where riots eventually brought a whole city to a halt and awakened new consciousness across the country. Players take the role of a young man named Carl "C.J." Johnson, who thought he had escaped the gangland lifestyle by moving away from his Los Santos home. When his mother is murdered, he returns to the neighborhood of his childhood, only to become embroiled with threats and danger from all sides. Because of his family and friends who remained in Los Santos, he's considered an enemy-on-sight to rival gang members. Even worse, perhaps, the corrupt local law enforcement frames him for a crime he did not commit. To clear his name and save his family, C.J. sets out on a long journey that will lead him all across the state. More than any earlier GTA game, San Andreas features strong elements of role-playing and character development, encouraging players to customize their version of C.J. as they play through his adventure on their own terms. Unlike the protagonist of GTA 3, or Vice City's Tommy Vercetti, C.J. isn't really working for some underworld organization or crime boss mastermind -- he's out to take care of himself and his own family. He is not driven by the immediate promise of wealth or promotion; his goals are far more personal. He must steer the direction of his exploits, to follow them to a satisfactory end. Also in the theme of giving more control over the lead character's development, players will take care of C.J.'s day-to-day needs. Food presents the easiest way to replenish lost health, so when he is hungry, he'll need to eat -- perhaps at one of San Andreas' fast food chains, like "Cluckin' Bell" or "Burger Shot." If he doesn't eat enough, C.J. will become thin and weak, but too much fast food without any exercise will cause him to grow fat and slow. Players can also choose the clothes that C.J. wears, and have him get customized tattoos. C.J. has to come up with any money he needs for these things on his own, however, since there won't always be some boss character waiting to pay him off as he completes his missions. One way to scratch up some quick cash is by robbing homes at night. When he jacks the right kind of van and puts on his ski mask, C.J. enters a stealth mode, and is more likely to be able to sneak into a house, nab some valuables, and head off to the local fence before the residents even wake up. Overall, San Andreas is in the same format and style that won millions of fans for GTA 3 and Vice City, but it features a number gameplay adjustments and improvements. In addition to C.J.'s stealth mode, he can also swim; a wrong turn off the pier will no longer result in an instant trip to the emergency ward, and if all else fails, the protagonist may even be able to evade pursuers by taking a quick dip. The game's targeting system has also been adjusted. Using triggers and both analog sticks (à la Manhunt), players take more complete control of C.J., and can have him run and strafe, change targets, and shoot

The good:Great graphics,good story,2 player,lots of extra stuff to get. The bad: soundtrack could have been a bit better. Graphics/Gameplay Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas graphics are great for 2004 pedestrian graphic quality is great car quality even better. Gameplay has unstable framerate and sometimes the loading times can't keep up with you if your car is going to fast but most of the time it's fine Story The story is fun to play and is more fun then GTA 4. First you start off in Los santos then you go to he country.After that you go to San fiero and then los vagas then you go back to los santos Controls The first addition to the game is the ability to ride a bicycle, which you encounter almost immediately upon starting the game. This is true on foot, also, as holding X will make you sprint, but tapping it makes him super sprint. The melee combat is a bit deeper now, as you can block and execute combo moves with the square and triangle buttons, respectively. The targeting system has received a slight overhaul that makes it look more like the targeting in Manhunt, but it's functionally very similar to the system in Vice City. CJ is also a little more athletic than previous GTA protagonists. For one thing, he can swim, both on the surface and underwater, which causes a breath meter to appear near your newly redesigned health meter. And if CJ's in shape, he can jump up and climb over high walls. Overall Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a perfect game

The best gta game to date.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the best game of the franchise. I started playing GTA 4 again and I thought about how much fun I have had with the past titles. San Andreas is still my favorite. San Andreas is the definition of a sandbox game to me. It is a game that showed me that you really can do pretty much anything you want. The map is gigantic and full of variety. You want to cruise around a big vegas type city? Go ahead. Do you want to hang out in a small quiet suburb? Ok. Or do you want to go in the back country and jump over mountain tops or even cruise in the sand dunes? You can do that too. I was amazed at how this world feels real and it is fun to explore and see it all. Yes the game has its problems. It isn't the best looking game and it may have its fair share of technical ... The story is long and the missions are crazy and fun to complete. Plus, there are a whole bunch of fun side missions to earn extra cash and respect for your gang. These include but are not limited to: gang wars to take over turf, robberies, pimping, races, sky diving, and many more. Add in the fact that you can customize the main character how you please(clothes, hair, physic, etc) and almost all the vehicle types in the game(color, decals, tires, tinting, etc) and how you can upgrade your weapon skills in order to handle them better(dual pistols and smgs, etc) and you have so many options to choose from in how you play the game and you have one complete game. The voice work in the game is awesome as well. There are so many characters you meet in the game and all of them have their own distinct and interesting personalites and their voices are excellently acted. If you haven't played this one and your wondering if you would be able to go back and play a last gen game definitely give it a go anyway. I have kept my ps2 all this time because I pop this one in every now and then to play it again among other select titles. I think the fun in this game holds up after all this time. I love GTA 4 but was a little disapointed at how toned down it was. It kind of seemed like a step back for me in a way. Bottom line: if you want to play a game with almost limitless freedom to do what you want then definitely play this game. Even today, there aren't many games that offer the amount of content and freedom that GTA San Andreas offers.

Great game i can play over and over and still have fun.
Great game. I've played it on two different systems the Playstation 2 and X-BOX. The game for me is great, cause it just dosent have mission after mission you can go off to the side and do side missions. They are different but then again the same, from big daddy to low ride competitions. I would give the game a 5. ANd i would recomend it to all players from people just picking up the PS2 for the first time. I liked it better on X-Box the controls just seemed a bit easyier. But everything else i would say is bout the same. But this one over the others i would say is my favorite. The storyline is great. A different side then playing a role off of being a mobster trying to get rank and earn your place. In this on you are a gangster and you have help from your gangsters you can get by talking ... I love this game. Many other people don’t. If you like a game that is on the edge. A game that breaks the rules. Than this is the game for you. However, if you don’t like games where you kill cops, blow people up, wreck cars, and kick people around DONT BUY THIS GAME. If you like doing those things in a video you might really like this game. Not to mention it has a great story line and is one of the most sold games ever.I love this game. Many other people don’t. If you like a game that is on the edge. A game that breaks the rules.
