Great scenery, interesting stories and charming people to spend time with
St John's, Newfoundland is the outermost port town on the Atlantic side of the island, bordering on the North Atlantic oilfields. This brings a hard-boiled, transient population to a small-town seaport, now emerging into an oil boomtown. Conflicts are sure to arise as transient oil workers, and their followers of entrepreneurs, hustlers and con men and women mix with the locals and disturb the locals' customs. Stage set, we meet proprietors of a local family business: Doyle and Doyle, Detective Services, a father and son team, whose crime-solving methods are as different as their personalities. Son, Alan, is charming and irreverent, while father, Malachy, is a little more old school, but clever, with his skill set. This family's business involves other family members as Alan and Malachy ... A Prejudiced Review in a Good Way
I have to admit I'm prejudiced before I start....because I grew up in Newfoundland and I fit right in with the characters and the geographical settings,language ,etc. In fact I'm pretty sure the lead actor is a distant cousin of mine. So yes,I really enjoyed the series,but yes,I admit I'm prejudiced in favor of the show. For someone from another part of the world, you do get the flavor of modern Newfoundland life and with some private detectives thrown in for good measure.I have to admit I'm prejudiced before I start....because I grew up in Newfoundland and I fit right in with the characters and the geographical settings,language ,etc. In fact I'm pretty sure the lead actor is a distant cousin of mine. Worth binging!
Republic of Doyle is a rare combination of humor, mystery and action with a cast of excellent actprs, filmed in beautiful Newfoundland Canada. 77 episodes, and you will be sorry they didn't make more. Warning: It is an addictive pleasure! We started watching when it was on Netflix, but half way through, Netflix stopped running it. It was worth the $45 we spent buying the whole series.so we could see the last 2 1/2 seasons of the 6. . . Republic of Doyle is a rare combination of humor, mystery and action with a cast of excellent actprs, filmed in beautiful Newfoundland Canada. 77 episodes, and you will be sorry they didn't make more. Keeps us entertained.
My husband and I love this show. Comedy, action and a little drama. It's very entertaining and the cast is really good. We really like the show. So far so good on the discs. Only in to the second season but haven't found a bad one yet. Fingers crossed. Received the set on time and in good condition. Happy with our purchase.My husband and I love this show. One of the Best Series Ever!!!
This TV series has it all: Exciting mystery, sparing comedy between the Doyle's and Romance that keeps you craving more from episode to episode. Great cast with just the right person for each role. Jake Doyle and Detective Leslie are the perfect match, even if they don't always admit it...
