Elfen Lied Video Set
Right from the opening credit sequence, it was clear that Elfen Lied isn't your usual anime. After all, the opening credits contained a good deal of relatively detailed nudity, and the opening few minutes has one of the highest DD/s (distinct deaths per second) rates in anime. Yet, despite all the violence, this anime is hardly a slasher or horror; it merely presents a story using real world physics. After all, what's the fun in eliminating the concept of bleeding? Naturally, the first thing that strikes the viewer will almost certainly be the copious amounts of red decorating the screen. On the plus side, that copious amount of red is at least crisp, clean, and always presented in a unique manner. No two decapitations are the same, and the severed limbs are very detailed, ... Likewise, the backgrounds are very detailed, and the use of colour establishes mood and tone exceptionally well. Animation is also crisp, accurate, and fluid. Music, on the other hand, is a bit of a mixed bag. The theme of the series, "Lilium," is a wonderfully haunting piece with Greek and Latin lyrics taken from various literary works. Unfortunately, it is also practically the only piece used, in various remixes, throughout the series. While that didn't detract from the viewing experience, it didn't earn the OST any bonus points either. Thankfully, Elfen Lied, unlike many lesser anime, actually has some substance to back up its unique style. Each character, despite being a bit flat, has a certain charm in his or her personality that allows the viewer to connect emotionally. Ironically, given the fact that one of the main themes is evolution, Elfen Lied's primary mode of characterization is through revelation, rather than adaptation. Despite this methodology, Elfen Lied thankfully never allows its characters to wallow in self-pity for long after any particular event (unlike... certain other anime). The vibrant cast is backed up by a plot that moves quickly, is full of surprises, and still explains everything clearly... up until the end. While the ending certainly accomplishes what it sets out to do, the producers also left (intentionally either for a sequel, or because it wasn't a vital element) many things open-ended. Also, several characters were not utilized to their full potential. This does leave the viewer a bit disappointed, but it certainly could have been worse. In the end, Elfen Lied is very powerful regardless of whether it's being analyzed from an audio-visual aspect or a storytelling aspect. Its primary strength, the ability to personify a global theme, allows the viewer to ignore all the plot holes and the gratuitous blood and nudity, and just focus on emotion: the foundation of humanity.

Konbanwa kiddos.... This is a fave of the old mans. But, only the Japanese version, in Japanese. Throw away the Americanized version....trash, garbage. Too puritanized. EL is wack, narcisistic and Fued/jung/Id as all git out, just like the writers meant it to be. It is a thesis on American Male Dominated Culture of Supply & demand based on Greed & Sex & large Corporations feeding fat from the tit of the american people and oil and chemical/drug companies....and how they will kill to keep it that way. The corporations invent anything they want...DICLONIUS....try to control it and if it steps out of line.....SEND IN THE ASSASSINS & KILL IT! An excellent DVD of extreme high quality with a superior story and artwork. recommend the Japanese version over the American for superior quality & ... Konbanwa kiddos.... Elfen Lied boxset
ELfen Lied is one of the new century classics. Years from now dozens and dozens of series will be only remembered by hardcore fans but Elfen Lied will prevail in the minds of mainstream fans. Naked girls covered in blood? YOu got it! But not only that, it has a deep stoyline and very good character development. My friends and I laugh about how in the "gory" scenes you never see any kind of organs (except for the heart in the 1st episode) and omg! the girls actually have nipples! (unlike Rei Ayanami and such) Not for the weak of heart (or stomach) this series is a perfect introduction to your "Anime sucks" friends. :)ELfen Lied is one of the new century classics. Plot, characters, and world
Elfen Lied is an anime that was based off a manga series of the same name. The show follows the story somewhat loosely and the plot is a little bit difficult to follow and become invested. However it is in the characters and their development and relationship between each other that really shines in this anime. Accompanied by a beautiful main theme song the story is mostly about the characters and how they have to deal with all that is going on in their lives. There are some very dark themes however circulating in this show. Everything from intense Gore to nudity, to child abuse, to even hints of incest. However this all bolsters the show as it makes the characters feel more real and human and causes the show to focus on them. This is not a show for the faint of heart. Be ready to see and ... With only 13 episodes this is truly a show worth seeing.

Warning: This is a Violent Anime, 18+ easily Elfen Lied is a beautiful love story told through video. The characters are well developed and likeable, and the voice actors, while at times a bit ameturish, make the story believable. The story follows a young woman with horns. She can seemingly kill at will from a distance of 2 meters. She wrecks her way through a facility developed to secure and study others like herself. She is struck with a glancing bullet blow and winds up on the shores of a town on the shore, with no memory attached. The story is complex, but not overly so as there are a numerous amount of flash backs inclue in the anime. Also it is noteworthy, please view in Japanise if you can, some of the characters are much more likeable/human like with the original japanise ...
