Happy with the RFLKT
I have ridden a few times with the unit - road and mountain. At first it seemed to have an issue with connectivity, but after replacing the battery, there have been no issues. It connects easily with my Z Play Droid bluetooth and broadcasts from the Wahoo Fitness app as advertised with my phone stashed in a waterproof hardcase in my hydration pack. I was able to create some custom display screens through the app, which was nice. There are a few limitations to the unit. The display is small, so loading up 7 values on screen makes it hard to read at a glance. Also, the unit does not have backlight, so it can be difficult to read with reflections, glare and low light. I did like how you could start and stop recording the activity with buttons on the RFLKT, keeping your phone safely in ... I have ridden a few times with the unit - road and mountain. Nearly dead tech
This was a cool product when it was first released even though it had serious issues. But now its utility is very limited because fewer and fewer apps support it. It no longer works with Strava, for example. The biggest issue with the RFLKT is that it has a buggy firmware. It has issues with connecting your phone if the sequence of connecting is not followed consistently and it has a tendency to lose the ability to connect every once in a while. The only remedy is to do a hard reset, clear out your settings and re-pair to Bluetooth. Very unfortunately, Wahoo has discontinued it and is no longer providing firmware updates.This was a cool product when it was first released even though it had serious issues. This is a great idea! I mean, you've usually got your phone with you on a ride, so why should you pay $300 or whatever for a GPS head unit? All together now: "Because a GPS head unit will not cause frustration to the point of hair loss!" Don't get me wrong...this thing is great, when it's good. Once you've mastered the arcane art of getting it to connect reliably with your phone it's a real joy. The screen is basically bitmapped, so you can build multiple views with scads of data all over them. I use it with the Cyclemeter app, which allows you to hook up multiple sensors for cadence, speed, heart rate, power, etc. But since it's the first and only device like this, there are little oddities. Like for example it uses an oversize 2450 lithium cell, which is not rechargeable, which is ... This is a great idea!
