Awesome World War II movies!
Battle Cry is about the United States Marines 6th Regiment during WWII. It takes your from boot camp to battle. My son is in the United States Marines 6th Regiment so it was nice to see the Regiment during WWII and what they did, great movie. It takes you from their life just before boot camp and brings you to the battles and everything in between. If you love our Marines, then this is a good movie for you to watch! Battleground is an AWESOME World War II movie about the Screaming Eagles, the 101st airborne during one of the most fierce battles of WWII the Battle of the Bulge. They were called "the battered bastards of Bastone" and did they ever earn that name! The movie went into the lives of a few of the battered Bastards to give you a sense of there life's there and back home. Well ... Two War Movies
"Battle Cry" is short on action and long on atmospherics and emotions. Not as good as "From Here to Eternity." The Director is Raoul Walsh, who is capable of greatness. However, you won't find it hear. "Battle Ground" is nearly perfect. It is in black and white, has a great cast and a story line that's coherent and concise. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Comparable to "Desert Rats" in overall quality. These are two very good movies. Battle Cry is a combination War Movie, Chick flick. It starts with the training of new recruits at a Marine base. Then follows Their off duty romances. Followed up with some exciting war action. Ending with Their travels back home and into the arms of Their Women. Battleground is an accurate account of 'The Battle of the Budge.' The 101ST Airborne stands off the relentless assault of Germany's offensive during Dec. 1944 in the Ardennes Forest. Actors include, Van Johnson, Marshall Thompson, James Whitmore and a very young Ricardo Montalban. All of whom do a wonderful job of convincing You that You are part of the battle. Before Band of Brothers, there was "Battleground"
I saw this film as a child, and I never forgot it. It was made in 1947 when WWII was still fresh in everyone's mind. There is the usual group of men in a squad holding down a portion of the front lines at the Battle of the Bulge. There are the usual stock types, but the parts are played with a clarity and excellence by the actors. Among the more well known are George Murphy, Van Johnson, James Whitmore and a very young Ricardo Montalban. The story of the days which these men spent waiting for the sun to shine, so that they could fight back against the enemy before they were overun, is wonderful. These men could have stepped out of an Ernie Pyle story. I suggest that anyone who is interested in World War II coverage should get this and watch it.I saw this film as a child, and I never forgot it.
