À propos de ce produit

Product Information

One of John Ford's most cherished projects, THE QUIET MAN took years to finance but became one of his greatest box-office successes and an enduringly beloved classic. John Wayne stars as Sean Thornton, a retired American boxing champion trying to put tragedy behind him by returning to Innisfree, the bucolic Irish village of his birth. He purchases his birthplace from its current owner, enraging the wealthy and bellicose Red Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen), who had designs on the property. On arriving at his cottage, Thornton finds it being swept out by Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O'Hara), a redheaded vision from whom he steals a not completely unwelcome kiss. After engaging in a subterfuge involving a horse race, some of the locals manage to get the disgruntled Red Will to allow his sister to be courted by the American. But the courtship ritual of the village is only the first of many local practices that the bewildered Thornton must endure if he is to have Mary Kate. Wayne gives a surprisingly nuanced performance as the fish out of water, and he is perfectly matched with the radiantly rambunctious O'Hara. The rest of the cast is splendid as well, and the lush color photography garnered an Academy Award for Winston Hoch. John Ford also won an Oscar for his directing, and it's impossible not to be charmed by the artistry with which he weaves his rollicking, robust tale.

  • The Quiet Man is a Wayne/Ford classic.

John Wayne is most remembered for his roles in westerns. This movie shows another side of the Duke. Directed by John Ford, an Irishman himself, and including many of Ford's regulars. You have frequent Wayne costar, Maureen O'Hara (looking beautiful as ever), Victor McLaglen, Ward Bond, and Barry Fittzgerald. Wayne plays a former boxer who blinded a man in one of his bouts. He comes to this small town in Ireland to get away from this issue, and is looked at suspiciously by the various townspeople Smitten with O"Hara, they get married, but she is unable to consummate the marriage because he won't accept her dowry. This is a classic Ford movie, and a loving tribute to his Irish heritage. Wayne and the rest of the cast are perfect.

  • The Quiet Man (DVD, 2002)

This is a very good movie, and I believe one of John Wayne's best. In this film Wayne portrays an ex-prize fighter (Sean Thornton) from Chicago. When an opponent is killed in the ring, he retires. His ancestry leads him back to Ireland and he purchases his birthplace from the current owner which enrages the wealthy Red Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen) who had plans to purchase the property for a long time. When Sean arrives at his new home, there is a beautiful read-headed woman sweeping out the place, Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O'Hara). After stealing a kiss, which is not actually refused, Sean instantly falls in love with her. Mary Kate's brother is required to give his consent if Sean will be allowed to court her, and he is not having anything to do with it. This movie is a comedy of old ...

  • The Quiet Man, a Great Movie

This is one of the best films with John Wayne and Maureen Ohara staring in the Quiet Man. They both gave very believable acting and the whole story was captivating and enertaining, The fight scene with Victor McLaughlin was great but even without any visible swelling or blood, it still was good. The Irish setting was a definite plus.

  • A collector's edition version of the Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O'hara and directed by John Ford

It is truly a classic! I've enjoyed this movie for four decades and have worn out one VHS tape version and one DVD version. A number of John Wayne's favorite actors team up for this story of an American returning to his Irish heritage, falling for a local colleen whose brother prevents their courtship.Eventually the whole town of Innisfree gets involved in the conflict.
