Activision's juggernaut first-person shooter returns for its annual assault on the bad guys with a focus on clandestine operations and deniable missions in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Developed by franchise veteran Treyarch, Black Ops marks a departure for the series, in that the action unfolds in neither WWII nor the nebulous "Modern" arena, but in the vast expanse of the Cold War. Players take control of several soldiers from the Studies and Observations Group (SOG), a multi-service special operations unit that, despite its seemingly innocuous name, carried out devastating precision assaults on enemy targets, captured opposition leaders, rescued downed pilots, and even conducted psychological operations. The 13-mission single-player campaign consists mainly of flashbacks culled from the memory of SOG member Alex Mason, and the action will take gamers around the globe for battles with the Viet Cong, the North Vietnamese Army, Russian soldiers, and Cuban Tropas. Gamers will be able to wield more than 40 different assault rifles, machine guns, shotguns, sniper rifles, and pistols; and missions find players attempting to destroy the Soviet chemical weapon Nova-6, swimming weaponless through a Vietnamese river, torturing a prisoner for information, and piloting an SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance airplane as well as a Mi-24 Hind helicopter. Multiplayer action remains a key component of the Call of Duty series, and Black Ops offers fans of the franchise more than a dozen game modes, eight character classes, and six multiplayer maps on which to battle. Gamers once again head online to fight against their friends in order to gain experience and reach level 50, where the "Prestige" mode is unlocked. Armchair soldiers who manage to string together multiple kills are rewarded with new killstreak bonuses, including napalm strikes, guidable helicopters, and explosive RC cars. Rather than award particular weapons and gear after milestone achievements, Call of Duty: Black Ops has instituted a new "COD Points" system to serve as a sort of in-game currency, allowing gamers to purchase the items they want whenever they please. COD Points can also be used to purchase new objective-based contracts that offer large points rewards, while the new "Wager Matches" let gamers gamble their hard-earned COD Points in four competitive game modes, with the top three finishers splitting the entire pot. Other multiplayer features include the "Create-A-Class" character customization mode, a new "Theatre" mode in which players can edit and upload videos, and the new "Combat Training" mode in which green gamers can hone their skills against AI bots before taking on human competition. And for those longing for cooperative multiplayer action, Black Ops marks the return of World at War's infamous zombie-laden co-op mode, once again allowing four gamers to team up and dispatch hordes of unrelenting undead. The "Hardened Edition" comes packaged in a special metal case, and includes the full game, a collector's medal and display case, four additional co-op maps not included in the standard edition of the game, and a special outfit for Xbox Live avatars.

Call of Duty: Black Ops
There's nothing like the hardened edition..The multiple player-online is great from killing zombies to wager matches, such as one in the chamber. The new wager matches are fun to play, but sometimes, depending on the time of day the player match que takes time to fill up.If any one has played modern warfare, or modern warfare 2 they'll enjoy this game. The story line is not so long, but entertaining. The only delema in the story is that the main character is being tortured and remembering prior missions. This part makes sense, but while reliving the mission, you get killed in the game. This part does not make sense since you're having flashbacks. How can you have flashbacks of being killed if your alive. Like I said the story line is entertaining and the multiple player online is where its ... Some of the perks and kills streaks are new (being able to control a helicopter), but it would be great if there was a dead perk where the character could lay down and register to other players as dead, but just playing possum-just a side wish. We'll back to the game, I strongly recommend this to gamers and the new-gamers, but if your an old school gamer, you have probably already played this or probably still playing. It's definitely a game for anyones collection. As for new map packs they are already available on xbox live, so if you get your game now there is room for expansion. The hardend edition with the zombie maps codes are hard to find in a new condition, but definitely worth the play. Good luck and see you on-line :)

Call of Duty: Black Ops is great when it comes to online and campaign. Fun ranking system online, with fast-paced multiplayer with lots of weapons and attachments. The campaign in Black Ops takes you all around the world doing different missions with a cold war theme. The hardened edition is nice too because it comes with a few extras and more zombie maps. Ever get tired of stopping power, Juggernaut, and noob tube spam from mw2? Blops solves all that, baby. with a dedicated team at treyarch actually paying attention to issues like hacks, overpowered weapons, and more Black Ops is far superior to its modern warfail counter part. Call Of Duty Black Ops Review
I have always been a fan of the call of duty series and have bought several others including modern warfare, modern warfare 2, world at war, and now black ops. I have loved playing nazi zombies on world at war and bought all the map packs, personally i think Der Riese(Zombie Factory) is the best zombie map that has come out so far, and i think that the black ops zombie maps King der Toten and Five and Dead Ops Arcade are not as great as the world at war maps especaially der riese. Once i heard that if you buy the hardened edition of black ops you will get the previous zombie maps I immediatley got onto ebay and started looking for a brand new Hardened edition black ops, as i had missed the first day launch of black ops i could no longer but hardened edition in stores, That is why i ...
