Synopsis
The Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award-winning classic about a boy who decides to hit the road to find his father--from Christopher Paul Curtis, author of The Watsons Go To Birmingham--1963 , a Newbery and Coretta Scott King Honoree. It's 1936, in Flint Michigan. Times may be hard, and ten-year-old Bud may be a motherless boy on the run, but Bud's got a few things going for him: 1. He has his own suitcase full of special things. 2. He's the author of Bud Caldwell's Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life and Making a Better Liar Out of Yourself . 3. His momma never told him who his father was, but she left a clue: flyers advertising Herman E. Calloway and his famous band, the Dusky Devastators of the Depression Bud's got an idea that those flyers will lead him to his father. Once he decides to hit the road to find this mystery man, nothing can stop him--not hunger, not fear, not vampires, not even Herman E. Calloway himself. • My daughter a nonreader loved it

She doesn't read a lot I'm always trying to get her interested in a book. This one she read in school and loved it so much she has read it three times. She got this copy. ;-)

  • Bud,Not Buddy

With a new school year beginning ,like every year, I can and do get overwhelmed buying all of the clothing and supplies needed. This year was a little tougher though. One of the items requested for class was a book titled bud, not buddy. I searched high and low and could not find it. Time was getting closer for school to start and I was getting worried that I would never find it until finally, I gave Ebay a try and sure enough, I found the book very quickly. The hardest thing I had to do was decide which one I wanted because there were so many to choose from but, finally I bought it. It arrived in time for school and I was very pleased with it. If I had known it was going to be so easy to find here I would have done it sooner.

  • Good Story

I bought 2 books, so that my mom could read along with my nephew. The first day was good, then my nephew lost interest. However, my mom loved it. She's still reading it.

  • Another gem by Christopher Paul Curtis

Like his first novel, The Watsons Go To Birmingham, Curtis's Bud Not Buddy is hilarious, cute, and bittersweet--all at the same time. In this book, a boy leaves his foster family in search of his real father, who he learns is a well-known jazz musician. His search and his learnings about jazz along the way--make for a very interesting story for fourth through seventh graders. The book does a great job of illustrating the Great Depression as well as the popular culture of the time, all the while telling a touching story. It's one of the better books out there for the middle level today. It makes a great read aloud, also.

  • Bud, Not Buddy
