In the tradition of LEAN ON ME and DANGEROUS MINDS comes COACH CARTER, an inspirational drama starring Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson portrays real-life figure Ken Carter, who graduated from California's Richmond High only to return there years later, in 1999, and take over as head coach of the boys' basketball team. Unfortunately, the troubled school he remembered as a teenager is an even more insufferable place in his adulthood. Determined to make a change in his players' lives, Carter makes each young man sign a contract that ensures he will maintain a 2.3 GPA, attend every class, and wear a jacket and tie on game day. Of course, the players reject the contract at first, but when they realize that they don't have any other choice, they give in. And when it appears that their tough-as-nails coach is actually turning them into winners on the court, they embrace their coach's philosophy even further. But when Coach Carter receives the incomprehensibly awful progress reports of his players, he does the unthinkable: he benches the entire team. Directed by Thomas Carter (SAVE THE LAST DANCE), COACH CARTER is a sensitive drama that features an impassioned performance by Jackson, as well as the impressive young cast (most notably Rob Brown, Rick Gonzalez, and Robert Ri'Chard).

    **AN EXCELLENT MOVIE!! Based on a True Story!!** 10/10

    We bought this movie as it appeared to be very inspirational and energetic, and offered a great acting cast, including Samuel L. Jackson and the kid from "Step Up". Overall, it is an EXCELLENT film!!! A very inspirational movie that shows how true commitment, dedication, and hard work can lead to great rewards! The positive influence and work of Carters extensive conditioning/training happened much sooner than we would have preferred. It happened soon after the movie begin(within the first 20 minutes or so), and we would have preferred to see the results more towards the middle of the movie. The movie is over two-hours long, and will keep your attention all the way through. RENT or BUY? Definitely BUY IT!! Our Rating: 10/10 Based on a True Story.

    Basketball Movie moves beyond the court

    I had low expectations for this movie- but I was very pleasantly surprized. Samuel Jackson plays an inner city coach who must battle not only a history of severely losing records, but players who are subject to gangs, academic failure, and teenage pregnancy and a host of other problems. His role is teaching the players not only basketball, but the importance of goals and studies. He battles with the principal, the parents, and a history of low expectations by society, the school board, and even the players themselves. In what could have been a canned "Cinderella Story" the movie takes some surprizing turns. You won't always be able to guess what's next. A feel good film. (This one's definitely not for watching when kiddos are around -- language and situational violence.) This film ...

    A Great Basketball Movie... Inspiring!

    This is one of my all-time favorite sports film. A great cast headlines an incredible cinderella story. This is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again and it will still stir up emotions within. Coach Carter was the highest opening weekend of any release from an MTV Film, and for good reason, it's amazing. Samuel L. Jackson is amazing as Coach Ken Carter and young stars Rob Brown, Ashanti, Channing Tatum, Robert Ri'chard, and Rick Gonzalez make up a superb supporting cast. Final Verdict: 5/5 Rent or Buy?: Any sports fan must have this movie in their collection. If you have a heart, Coach Carter is for you! IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE.     Coach Carter is a top sports drama 4/5

    Before reading my review of 'Coach Cater' - let me preface by saying that I'm a sucker for any sports movie. Rocky IV is my favorite movie of all time. I loved Remember the Titans, Million Dollar Baby, Raging Bull, etc. In typical sports drama fashion, Coach Cater is the story of a coach who challenges his lost players to be betters athletes, sportsmen and people. Samuel L Jackson plays Coach Carter - the provocative and controversial coach who challenges his inner-city basketball team to dedicate themselves to his philosophy, their game, and their schoolwork. In the meantime, Carter is challenging the school-district, his family, and himself to assess their values and beliefs.     This movie is about a strong Coach and Teacher

    This is a great movie not only about a coach but a strong motivator for these young men. The changes that young men will face growing up. The coach teaches them not only about basketball but the stero type young men faces within their lives. He has motivated himself because he knows if these kids don't make a change, they will either end up in prison, or dead. I highly recommend this great movie to own.
