Product Information

Accomplished director Sidney Lumet has based some of his most notable films on true crime stories, and FIND ME GUILTY is similar in this respect to such work as SERPICO and DOG DAY AFTERNOON. The difference lies in the comedic, almost cartoonish aspect of the later movie, which stars an astonishingly charming Vin Deisel as lifelong Mafioso Jackie DiNorscio. Perennially cheerful and always cracking wise, DiNorscio is a notorious criminal who is serving time on his most recent conviction for cocaine trafficking when the Feds bring him in to offer him a deal. They are mounting a massive case against New Jersey's biggest mob family, led by Nick Calabrese (Alex Rocco), in what will eventually earn a World Record as the longest-running trial in history. The fiercely loyal DiNorscio, however, refuses to rat on his friends, and instead he finds himself standing trial along with them.Jackie throws another wrench into the works by deciding to forgo a lawyer and represent himself in the case; he begins a line of argument that positions him as a "gagster, not a gangster." All the lawyers on the case are initially horrified by this decision, including their leader Ben Klandis (Peter Dinklage in a rare turn), while Jackie repeatedly offends the judge (Ron Silver) and drives the high strung D.A. Sean Kierney (Linus Roache) to distraction. However, as the case progresses it becomes apparent that Jackie is winning over judge, jury, and audience. His commitment to his friends and family emerges in numerous moving moments, while Jackie's testimony--based closely on transcripts from the trial--remains truly entertaining while calling into question the integrity of a judicial system that just might fall for it.

    Not What I Expected

    For some reason, I expected this movie to be a comedy. I don't know where I got the idea, but it definitely was not funny. Moreover, it was rather sad. This film "based on a true story" stars Vin Diesel playing a clownish, over-the-hill mafia cappo who got the bright idea to defend himself during a RICO trial including 20 defendants and 360 days of evidence and testimony. What is sad about the movie is that this man is utterly clueless, a murderous criminal, and yet he wraps the jury around his little finger by making off-color jokes about cocaine and his wife's genitalia. Worse yet, the film obviously tries to make you fall in love with the guy! Nonetheless, the movie had its moments.     Lumet's Done Better

    We know that Sidney Lumet is a world-class filmmaker. When Al Pacino was riding high on his "Godfather" fame, Lumet cast him in "Dog Day Afternoon," an equally difficulty role. This is perhaps the greatest achievement of "Find Me Guilty" as well. Vin Diesel, an actor known mostly for his unapologetic action roles, is cast against type in a part that mines the same significant acting chops that he displayed last in "Saving Private Ryan." Otherwise, "Find Me Guilty" is mostly forgettable, except maybe for die-hard mobster fans.

    GREAT MOVIE

    I'm a fan of courtroom dramas, so this movie especially appealed to me. It perfectly sets up the imposing grandeur of the a highly-charged courtroom, the assertive judge, the aggressive and incisive prosocuter, and the calmly-spoken defenders of the mob who stand as if butter wouldn't melt in their mouths while portraying their clients as fine upstanding citizens who are just misunderstood. Then along comes the loose cannon Jack DiNorscio, (Vin Diesel) who casually admits to being involved in all manner of abhorent crime, chats about it openly in front of everyone while questioning the witnesses, breaks all manner of protocol, comes to within inches of being thrown out, and in the course of it all captures the hearts of the jury.     Never knew vin diesel could pull off a role like this!

    This is a movie based off real crime family life events, its pretty much the court trial but outrageously hysterical! I couldn’t stop laughing at Vin trying to be a criminal/lawyer . I never even heard of the movie before i found it on one of my movie apps. It was so funny i just had to own it! Movies over 2 hrs long so grab a snack and a comfy spot on the couch because youre not gonna wanna miss anything that comes out of “jackies” mouth!!!

    Vin Diesel's Best Performance

    This is a really great movie with strong performances. It is based on the true story of Jackie DiNorscio (Vin Diesel), a mobster who defended himself in court for the longest mafia trial in U.S. history. Jackie decided to stand trial instead of ratting out his family and associates. The great thing about this movie is it is really very interesting for a courtroom drama. There are some slow parts but some really funny parts too. Jackie calls himself a "gagster" not a gangster. You really like Jackie and his big heart. He loves his cousin even though his cousin tried to kill him and put 4 bullets in him. I also liked that Vin Diesel played a part that was against his buff, action hero image. It was really refreshing. He can really act too and he is great as Jackie. If you want ...
