The XL2 is an affordable, easy-to-use SD camcorder with sollid quality.
I did not purchase a refurbished black/white camcorder but a 3-CCD full-color Canon XL2 unit. The black/white is a fine unit that captures black and white values in standard definition with great quality for an SD camcorder. The full-color unit is equally proficient. This is an easy-to-use device that gives you exactly what you expect - quality and convenience at an affordable price. As a Video Production Manager, at a minor league baseball team, I intend to utilize this camera with a lens extender attachment as our primary center field camera. With an already-strong 20x zoom, the lens extender (also a Canon product) can bring this unit closer to 34x or even 35x, which is very good given our production needs. Excellent Standard Definition Production Camera
Size, weight, features and flexibility are a few of the reasons I chose the Canon XL2 camera. Yes, it's not a High Definition camera body, but in the area I am working, nothing is produced in HD. Once the local market starts presenting HD, all I have to do is purchase the body. All my lenses, filters, microphones, cables, batteries, remote zoom control, LED on camera light and 100G DVI storage device will all work on the HD version and best of all the learning curve is minimized because all the controls are in the same place and work the same way with only the additions that support the HD format.Size, weight, features and flexibility are a few of the reasons I chose the Canon XL2 camera. Very well built and loaded Pro Model Camcorder.
I had always wanted one of the these Canon XL Pro model Camcorders but was never able to afford one when they were fairly new. Now with other HD models out there these camcorders are a fantastic value. First this is a pro model camcorder and it is not light. You can hand hold it of course but my recommendation is to purchase the Canon TA-100 tripod adapter and use it on a tripod if possible, for the best results. They will rival HD if you shoot this way in my opinion. It has all the bells and whistles one could ask for on a camcorder of this level and you can adjust just about everything to your heart's content. It can be as complicated as you desire and on the other hand you can simple turn on and start shooting. I haven't really put it through it's paces yet as my primary passion is ... I love the Canon XL2... the 3 White Balance pre-set function and array of Manual options, as well as Automatic options make this camera one of the best in its class. The lenses available to the XL2 are second to none. Due to the recent craze over DSLR, the price on these XL2's has dropped incredibly low, but make no mistake about it, it's still the same BADASS! camera that it has always been (If I could afford it right now, I'd buy another one).I love the Canon XL2... the 3 White Balance pre-set function and array of Manual options, as well as Automatic options make this camera one of the best in its class. The lenses available to the XL2 are second to none. The most important feature was the 20:1 zoom allowing outdoor events such as graduation to be 'live streamed' on the Web without having the camera position in the line of sight for the audience in attendance. It has more than lived up to its reputation. Clean clear video and audio. The flexibility of both audio and video inputs and outputs is a key factor as well. The operational learning curve, while not simple, is not so complicated that it is impossible for non-video people to understand.
