The prequel to 2000's role-playing game on PlayStation, notable for its artistic style and side-scrolling environments, Valkyrie Profile 2 takes place hundreds of years before the events chronicled in the original. The protagonist is Alicia, a conflicted princess who discovers she possesses a rather opinionated second soul. This uninvited guest is the valkyrie Silmeria, forced to reside within Alicia's delicate frame after displeasing the Norse god Odin. After Alicia is banished because of her dual personalities, she and Silmeria must figure out a way to separate their identities and maintain their sanity. <br><br>The first step involves Alicia returning to her rightful place in the kingdom she calls home. In a nod to the first game, the developers have retained the same side-scrolling exploration phase that made Valkyrie Profile stand out among its peers. New to the series is what is referred to as the "photon action system," where players can branch out into new areas, solve puzzles, and engage in additional encounters by unleashing or projecting photons at various times throughout the journey. Battles take place from a traditional 3D perspective as party members employ various tactics to defeat groups of monsters.

A very pretty 2-D RPG for the PS2
Story-wise Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is a prequel to Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. The game has beautiful backgrounds rendered using a 3D engine, yet it plays like a 2D platformer. You are able to control Alicia in 2D. You can run left/right, jump and throw phozons (these freeze your enemies, allowing you to avoid conflict). Throughout the game Alicia will meet many different characters who will join her party. Four characters can be used in a battle at any one time, Each of the four characters has to be assigned to a face button. The battles in the game are not random, in order to begin a battle you must physically touch an enemy in 2D view. After this the game shifts into 3D view where you must move your party towards a particular enemy. When you press the corresponding button the ... I recommand this game!
I have played Valkyrie 2 before and it was a lot of fun so I decided to buy it myself. The cutscenes are my favorite because of the beautiful graphic and also the gameplay itself is strong in that point. There are several main characters that you keep playing, and the so called einherjar, spirits that you'll find in weapons along your way, who (if you want to) can join your party and be helpful until a certain lvl, but even beyond the "Free LvL"(which means you've made them strong enough to release them so they start living again as humans) you can keep them, although I haven't figured out yet if it's really wise to do so. Your characters have attacks that you have to synchronize smartly, otherwise you might have one character throwing your enemy into the air while the other one was trying ... I have played Valkyrie 2 before and it was a lot of fun so I decided to buy it myself. So think when you set the following attacks. Then there are skills that can be learned by equipping certain itemgroups, if you remove a necessary item in a combination, you might lose the skill, but be alert to combine items to skills that fit the characters specialties. You collect items during your battles check at the armory at some point if you have the necessary ones for special equipment that you can put together to upgrade your character's strength etc. As every game in this genre it takes a while to get through it especially if you just play it every once in a while when you've got time, thus I haven't gotten through it yet, but I can't wait to see what happens next! I recommand this game to everyone who likes to see beautiful graphics (don't miss out on the special attacks look at all at them at least once!), neat detailed surroundings and action in battle. I think this should be enough for now. Enjoy!

Sequel of The Best RPG Storyline Ever
I've played Valkyrie Profile (PSX / VP 1 / VP Lenneth) and witness it's best storyline, so I decided to play the sequel : Valkyrie Profile 2 (Silmeria). And as predicted, it's also provide me a shocking storyline as well. It's amazing how they (Tri Ace) create such a great and brilliant storyline. Connected with VP1 storyline, VP2 also have a deep feeling about love story. The critique, in my opinion is about the battle menu, it's not simple and tricky, or rather difficult to control the character position over enemy spot. Rather than that, this sequel is also marked as best RPG storyline ever, same as it's prequel VP1. I can't wait the third sequel (if Tri Ace have it). Every RPG fan should have this game.
This game was such a treasure to find with it's phenomonal music and graphics, engrossing gameplay, twisted plot, and the variety of characters possible to play. If anything, it has some of the best show of PS2 graphics I have seen-something to expect from a Square-Enix production. The wind moving through the environments, the water trickling, the sort-of dream-like haze in the towns. It all culminates into an eye-pleaser if nothing else. But the gameplay and game engineering is also top quality. The character designs are very diverse with many periods of time and cultures represented. There is a fairly even mix of female and male characters as well as classes like archers, light warriors, mages, ect. The menu navigation and ability to load different game data at anytime (other than ... You can keep loading a game when you don't get the einherjar you want until the randomized selection gives you the perfect group you are looking to adventure with. The ability to instantly travel to any location on the map without lengthy travel from location to location keeps the pace nice and brisk giving you only what you want, buying equipment and battles. The difficulty is right where it needs to be, if you do a quick run game, you will have a tough time beating the boss. It's nice not to have leveling forced on you but rather as an elective thing so that you can get through the story when you want to. The battles are clever, mixing tactical RPG with action making it very engaging and actually fun. There is a degree of button mashing, but then again, it's not a static or boring as the your turn, my turn, cast a spell, drink a potion. It's actually combat, like it should be. I can't praise this game enough...I don't care how good the first was, it can't be better than this one. This will certainly go down as a best title for the PS2. If I had any complaints, it would be the recycled voice-commentary for different einherjar and the fact that they really aren't involved with the main story-line. Oh, and since they would be stupid not to make a third one, customizable armor would have been the cream of the crop. Valkyrie Profile 2 is a solid offering for the last PS2 has to offer.

With the coming advent of the latest Valkyrie Profile game for DS, and as an owner of Valkyrie Profile for the Playstation, I felt hard-pressed to fill in the missing chunks of storyline that I had yet to explore in Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. Surprisingly, it's become rather difficult to locate a complete set of the game. I feel the strongest part of the game is the battle system. It isn't just turn-based. It's not just scrolling through commands. Attacking takes timing and skill if one wishes to create combos and have their characters attack in tandem. Formulating guard-crushing onslaughts of attacks with, say, a Fire Storm spell in the mix, powering up the combo bar for special finishes to further banish your foes to kingdom come. All in addition to the unique turn-based strategem ... Some people are into that, I guess. What can you expect? Tri-ace were also the geniuses behind gems like Star Ocean and Radiata Stories. If you're a fan of those, you'll definitely be in your niche with Valkyrie Profile 2.
