This disaster covered in a unique way
I really enjoyed reading this book. The author has a good grasp of the tragic events of the Donner party, and he also understands the main characters who are involved. It is written similar to a play. As the events enfold, the various characters present words that they may have said, or thoughts that thy may have had. A few of the voices are: Patty Reed: the angel, Tamzene Donner: the scholar, James Reed: the aristocrat, and Ludwig Keseberg: the madman. The voice of the narrator is called "Hunger". At first I was a little skeptical about this format, but I soon found it to be a valid method. Everything written about the the Donner Party, whether by the survivors or others, has some bias. I would call what is written in this book a very educated guess as to what was ... I really enjoyed reading this book.
