Demonic Pokemon for Adults!
Massive JRPG with recruitment system for demons, Fusions to create more powerful demons, fast fights, dark story, beautiful stylized graphics and a deep intelligent battle system that forces you to really learn the weaknesses of every demon you face. This was the first in the main series to release in The west. Third entry in the series. Any fan of the Persona series that is interested in the main series it originated from should start here. This is where the Press Turn system ws introduced. This has the negotiations the series is known for and 185 demons to recruit. A compendium you can register or buy demons from for the fusions you do. This game is honestly one of the best in the series. Highly recommended. Multiple endings and a very high replay value with a 50+ hour first play ... Shin Megami Tensei 3
I have been playing games for nearly 2 decades now and rarely have I been so pleased, so excited over a game that not only do I beat it. But in fact after losing the copy track down a brand new copy just to play it again. SMT 3 has a massive amounts of endings, 6 in total, all depending on personal choices depending on different "reasons". I find it quite interesting that this is one of the few games that doesn't spoon feed you your morals and your main character without having a say on it and just about every decision you take shapes your character differently. More surprising is the level of difficulty, if you are an experienced RPG player difficulty is the last thing you expect but in here no one is safe and from personal experience the more confident you get the worst it ... More surprising is the level of difficulty, if you are an experienced RPG player difficulty is the last thing you expect but in here no one is safe and from personal experience the more confident you get the worst it turns out when you least expect it as the game likes to throw curve balls whenever by sending unbelievably strong and challenging enemies and bosses....this gets far worse in Hard mode. Demons customization is quite easy but complex to the point of making you really interested on how to make it work exactly as you would like and I found my self trying different things in order to create demons with specific skills. Dante is in the game as well so its a great addition for all DMC fans. This is by far my favorite RPG for the PS2 and one of my favorites of all times, it has made me very interested in Atlus and their future projects. If you can, don't let this one go.

A mature and challenging RPG!
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is indeed a great game to play and it still holds up very well after 10 years. The devs have made a great choice of making the graphic have a stylized anime look to it, especially a more mature art style as opposed to going for realism. It made the game feel alive and still keep its mature atmosphere. I also do love its color scheme as I am so glad it did not go for gritty desaturated color schemes and instead went for more hues and shades of colors to convey the mood of the game. It does present some very creepy and liminal atmosphere, fitting for apocalypse Tokyo! The gameplay is also very solid, especially for any turn-based RPG fans! One of the best feature coming from this is how you can gain an extra turn when you exploit an enemy's weakness or get ... Although, to make things slightly more fair, enemies can gain extra turns too if they exploit your weakness. This game is pretty challenging too so it's definitely not recommended for any inexperienced RPG fans, or any inexperienced gamers in general. Its difficulty is what defined Shin Megami Tensei after all! Just...don't go for the hard mode as it'll just make you die a lot. Definitely a Shin Megami Tensei game worth playing!

One of the Best
After playing RPGs for about 15 years, I would have thought I seen it all. I began to get bored of the 'average' rpg, and would wait years inbetween FF releases to even touch a game. But when I got my hands on Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne all that changed. I was emersed in a struggle for good and evil, saving the world, saving the girl, all while enlisting the help of over a hundred different kinds of demons. The story starts out as the world is about to be reborn by an unknown 'cult'. You and your friends happen to be part of the few who survive. You as a half demon decide to change the world back to normal and thus start your quest. Demons can be coersed to befriend you, and help you on your quest. With a great story, intense indepth gameplay, an army of demons to befriend, and some pretty spiffy art, if you can manage to get a copy you can't go wrong with this game.

The best console RPG series.
The Shin Megami Tensei (Megaten) series is little known outside of Japan which is unfortunate, because I believe it's the best console RPG series to come out of Japan. Noctunre's character and party customability puts many other RPGs, both console and PC to shame. The ability to build your character and group as you see fit is one of the better selling points of the game. The cell-shaded graphics also work very well in giving the game its own unique feel while never taking the serious tone away from the game. However, it's the impressive and somewhat controversial plotline that makes this game so enjoyable. An apoclyptic plotline spanning across a very changed Tokyo. Consisting of everything from creatures of Japanese folklore to Judeo-Christian characters straight out of the book of ... It also doesn't hurt that Atlus was able to convience Capcom to include Dante from the Devil May Cry series in this game as an antagonist and later on as an ally. The only real drawback to this game is the amount of time players will spend simply improving their character and their party. The game practically requires that the player spend hours in the same place gaining experience just to survive. It also requires extensive amounts of time to build a "perfect" group as the game tends to be very unforgiving to players who make mistakes during combat. If you want to try something different and have the money to spend on a copy of a rather rare playstation 2 game, then I highly reccomend this title, just be prepared to sink a lot of time into it.
